That harmonic feedback can't be beat by anything. I prefer the AD200 and an SVT. I think the old hybrid World Tour Eden amps were the magic formula too.
Yes everyone forgot draging a 200 pound rig when they were 16 and traded amazing sound for a 1×12 cab and a 3 pound 800 watt class d amp or a di pedal and bought a pedal to try to get the grit and compression a 200 watt all tube bass amp makes you can't create the sound or the air blowing against your back when you have it cracked you feel like you could lean back and have it hold you. I miss the days of playing gigs with a fender twin or a marshall 100 watt guitar amp and an svt with an 8×10 even an ad 200 with a 1×15 cranked the orange cab that's real pure bass guitar tone and the clean with slap or funk is unbelievable you cant find it with a solid state amp with even a tube front end preamp
Nice playing Cici. I must admit, that Warwick sounds ace!
New strings? NOT in the real world. Aristocrats get Hardly a fair comparison
Lee's a bending machine
I've been a gigging bassist for decades. Best live gigging experience was back in the 1990s where everywhere we played had a house system, and I brought my full bass amp rig. Peavey Mark VIII head into a Mesa Boogie 2×15 cab. Never was told to turn down, ever back then. Lots of those venues have come to pass over the years and we've been playing smaller gigs where too much is really too much. Now we are getting back into playing larger venues, and again with house systems. Without and amps on a good sized stage looks pathetic. Time to dust off my Mesa 4×10 and my custom modified Ampeg B115E cab, use two bass amps/signal chains and get my groove on.
Having a 200W tube bass amp is now something I can actually consider. Looking at the Marshall VBA 400 tube head and vintage 1540 or 1520 Marshall bass cabinet.
Silent Stages suck
so how much watts do need for band rehearsels for two two 50 Marshalls and drums.
i have 1000w Warwick amp
I started playing music as a keyboardist after i finished school, which was the late 70s. The bands that i played with during those days (late 70s to late 80s) was full tube amps (bass & leads gtrs), such as Marshalls & Fenders amps. One thing i will never forget about those days are that those amps, especially the bass amps ARE DAMN HEAVY! The last full tube bass amp that my band played with was the Fender Bass amp (can't remember the model & the wattage) & the bass cab was a Fender 2 x 15". The bass head itself required 2 of us to carry down to the transport! But yes, they really sound awesome!! Really love this video. Now i have retired from music at the age 63…
Interesting that old school Jack Bruce into the Marshall playing counterpoint to Clapton on 11 sound has never gone away. Big British amps boiling those electrons; what a great sound.
I have a Traynor YBA200-2 tube amp that has a warmth to it. It also has a really cool sag and spongy sound that is a contrast from the punch of a Class D amp or convenience of amp simulators like the Helix, etc
Why does Cici always sound like she's a few levels above the other bassplayers she plays with? She's just so good to my ears at least?
Cici playing Duran Duran's Rio put a big smile on my face ????
Thanks guys, excellent demo !
Never owned a tube amp in my 20+ years. They sure sound great though.
I always played an Ampeg SVT Classic and an Orange AD200. I loved them both for completely different reasons, but I not so secretly wanted to trade them both for an Ashdown CMT 300.
I always thought the debate was between these amps, am I wrong?
Ampeg SVT Classic
Orange AD200
Ashdown CMT 300
Aguilar DB 750
hiwatt the best amp in town absolute , hashdown not bad , very good apollo and post production recording sound quality
❤
Give us a Fender ????????????
i don't know which i like the best. The ashdown i think sounded best overall, the orange i think had a better low end though
Tubes are so much warmer. The tone sets right in the mix
Loved it! Further evidence that I need to get an AD200B at some point. You could do an Ampeg showcase of a B-15, V-4B and an SVT?
Do these amps come with a personal roadie?
Growing up I actually always gigged a rectifier with a 4×12 the other guitarist with a Marshall 4×12 (or an Orange) and our bassist always gives an SVT with an 8×10. And my parents let us practice hours upon hours in the living room, garage, bedroom. Why did the world change? Those were the days.
funny enough ive been touring for the past 10 years with Ashdown LB30 drop heads , a pair of them, and lots of gigs one does the job and for larger stages the pair works a treat, full rich sounding, the big problem with huge bass amps 200 and 300 watt is that you really do not get the benefit of the valve tone without driving the output section, SVTs and ctm300 sound shit at low volumes , and lets face even playing arenas with an SVT you never have the master above 3 ever. now a lot lower rating 30 – 100 , you can drive the output section and get those 3rd order harmonics , they virtually all sound better driving the output section and keeping the preamp relatively clean! that's where the magic is! the LB30 or little bastard design is one of my all time favourite sounding bass amps, along with the Ampeg V4B , just the right amount of grunt
Wow, that tube amp sounds really good through my transistor iPhone
I wish musicians would reject silent stages.
Unfortunately, the best option when you are not built like a tank and are reliant on public transport is considerably more compact and lightweight – thankfully, today's world of digital amp sims don't suck like a school bus full of near diabetics in a lollipop store.
Les Claypool refuses to use valve amps so i'll follow his lead
I can definitely hear the difference , I stopped going to see bands that only used di / amp modeling , eg The Stranglers sounded awful to my ears & if you have risd crew why make them set up tge amps just for show & not use them ?
You can do anything with a ctm100 …its my favorite out of my collection of heads .I don't require distortion pedals to get driven sounds with this smp either .
hiwatt sounded the best by far. sounds like it would nicely compliment an orange run in parallel
A good studio pre, a heavy class AB and some really excellent cabs and I´m good.
I’ve owned an Orange AD200 and unfortunately while it sounded great when practicing it was a bit underpowered and got lost in the mix with a live band. I sold it and my SVT stayed!
All three sound amazing (players and rigs) I'd love lessons from each of you as you all play your own style so well.
loll 12:04 I don't have to sell my soullll, He's already in me
What a racket…. just play bass!!!
Why would anyone add distortion to bass
Cici is cool man
Bass tube amps don't have to be expensive.. look out for Dynacord Bassking or even better the Dynacord Imperator. Price is around 300 EUR and they have plenty of headroom and better speaker outputs than most modern amps: 1 x 4 Ohm, 2 x 8 Ohm, 1 x 16 Ohm 😀
Hey can you do a prs se ce 24 standard vs ibaneze az standard video?
silent stages are shite sound men need to get a grip
I'm normally an Orange guy but that Ashdown sounded amazing here. Easily the best of the three.
No. Just use a helix.
Showed up at a gig with a shared backline. Bass was a Mesa with a matching 8×10. Awesome.
Glorious Iron Maiden!
First time i was in a studio i played guitar through a Ampeg bass tube amp…it was liberating.
This made my bass soul very happy! Lets see more of this 🙂
You don’t need one. But I do have a 100W Ampeg V4B and a 400W Aguilar DB680/DB728 so that makes me a hypocrite. ????
