The Ibanez seems to retain the Bottom end well, the Boss and Behringer work well in a band mix but I like the Battalion
All but the Battalion sound pretty rough, i like to use an Eden GloPlug with mix at 12 o'clock, used subtlety, the 'Hot/Cold' pot used 10 – 11 o'clock it gives my amp a nice pushed tube sound…subtle if used at all, a clean tone cuts threw the mix compaired to distortion, most bass distortion just gets lost live or recorded, very hard to get a good tube driven bass tone that can be heard, the Tube channel of my Laney Digbeth gives a great pushed tube like tone that does'nt dissapear, i don't use the drive pot, an Eden GloPlug into the Tube channel of the Digbeth sounds good to my ears, subtle but can be heard live, ….i hope, gotta trust the guy at the mixing desk, i like to talk to the soundman on the console before playing live, i take a recording & say "this is how i want it to sound', as close to the recording as possible, thanks…then pray there good at there job..lol
Well demo'd…NO DARKGLASS, sacriledge to those crazy distorted bass folk….
I gotta say my favorite is still the tube screamer. Gotta nice warm Grohl to it. Another awesome video by the way! Thanks!
nice video,helped me out! thanks
Man, how do you get your bass ts9b to sound good ? I recently got one and it sounds like farts with no mids . I'm so use to the ts808 on my bass ???? as well as a normal ts9
As crazy as thus may sound but I dig the behringer
I like the Nobels and the EBS. The Maxon is interesting, it seems to be less linear than the others in the amount of drive it delivers. Soft playing sounded clean, but once you hit a certain threshold, it gets dirty quickly.
Ibanez for me, and your other video made me buy it. Really love it, as I can get some Motörhead vibes on it. And I'm a bit of Ibanez guy ????
i might need to invest in an actual bass overdrive. i’ve used guitar overdrive and distortion on bass, but it always end up way too muddy for my liking. i’m always surprised by how good the behringer pedals sound, i shouldn’t just cause they’re exact copies of other pedals pretty much. but that boss sounds great and the blue bass driver too
The Nobels and Behringer both surprised me. At $29 USD it seems like the Behringer is a no-brainer. Unfortunately I am not sure where to source the Nobels – is this particular model discontinued? I would love to see the MXR Bass Overdrive on your channel at some point.
The most illustrated bass Overdrive pedals video I’ve seen…it will make selection easier I think.
Only one I don’t like is the Boss. All the other ones sound killer. If I had to pick one I’d probably be the nobles.
I finally got a Boss odb3, but, The Ibanez sounds a great classic from 70´s!!
Wew… was happy my preferences were the same as yours, with the Digitech closely in there as well. I listened through with eyes closed and headphones. Thanks for this great comparison.
I remember your review of the Digitech bass driver and believe you pointed out that the dry and wet signals seem to coexist and not quite blend together which I thought was a great observation. In the sound samples with the backing track, i was surprised the disparity between the wet/dry didn't seem apparent to my ears, and the pedal seemed to cut through the mix very well with decent clarity.
Awesome demo ???????????????? I have the digitech bass driver and it was my first bass distortion pedal. So my personal favorites are the digitech bass driver, ehx nano battalion, boss odb-3, and the Maxon bass driver. Speaking of the battalion, I do own an ehx battalion preamp pedal(the big one) on my main pedalboard and it sounds phenomenal.
Nobels &EH ????????
I've had the MultiDrive for YEARS but the lack of tweakabilty has been bothering me lately, and was thinking about the Nano Batallion or Nano Overlord to swap it out with. Imma have to compare them directly at a store, but seems like the Batallion could emulate the same sounds with a bigger tone palette
Great review & riffs – the TS would sound great in low gain environment I think, dance & pop. Credit/curses to Behringer, they really nailed/stole the ODB-3 sound. Also liking the EBS a lot, maybe I'm wrong (just one small pill speaker rn) but it sounds like it adds the least color to your natural tone? Something I like in a drive pedal
Wow the Digitech X-series did way better than I expected; that series has more than just the bass synth wah and it's way past due for a comeback.
