It’s very rare for me to be talking about a lower action… but there are exceptions once in a while.

  • Low action and low tension is so much easier on your hands, sounds better(need great technique), and can play faster. Also you can bend and play harmonics/ chords cleaner. It all depends on your finger technique.

  • I am of the same mind. I go for a clean sound without the fret rattle but know how to dig in to get that pop from slaps and pulls when I need it. I have found there is only a small difference in string height between to much clang and the sweet uncluttered tone I prefer.

  • Great bassist Hadrien Feraud has been discussing his theory about low action not affecting his ability to play warm bass lines but it's technique that makes the difference. He has posted several videos on his IG page on the subject showing low action not necessarily the issue. It would great to get his perspective on the subject. Thank for sharing ???? ????????

  • I practice high play low. But the tone is definitely different. The sustain and articulation is different

  • I noticed my old squier has high action, but it was consistant, so my guess is I learned with high action. Still plays wonderfully, might raise it on my current bass

  • I absolutely love the tone of that type of lower action, it’s my favorite tone. and I like the feel too. Btw.. double reverse p’s are great for slap! I have a bass with split coils like that and it sounds so crazy good when i very slightly roll to the neck pick up. I can get nice jazz bass slap tones that way but still retain that nice “buttery” double reverse P sound at the same time
