DSM & Humboldt Simplifier Preamp with Line6 HX Stomp Cabsims – Pedalboard Rundown
I have not posted in a while but wanted to demo the latest board that I built centered around the Simplifier and HX Stomp. This board was a culmination of previous board builds with the idea of being able to run multiple configurations (stereo, mono, direct).
I bypassed the Simplifier cabsims and used IRs on the HX Stomp for cabsims and found that it immensely enhanced the Simplifier.
I normally ran the EQ completely flat when using the Simplifier standalone but with using the HX Stomp cabsims, the EQ, Presence, and Resonance settings made a big difference when pairing with IRs on the Stomp.

Simplifier Preamp settings:
Gain – Around 1 to 2:00
Volume – 12:00
Low – 7:00
Mid – Around 6 to 7:00
High – Around 6 to 7:00
Presence – 8 to 9:00
Resonance – 7 to 8:00
EL34 Tubes
Note: The preamp can cause the HX Stomp IRs to clip so setting the Volume at 12:00 will help prevent clipping. For USB out, I bumped up the volume to around 1:00 but live or through a DI box, volume was at 12:00.

awesome set up and sound. i am not sure if i understand the simplifier preamp and hx cab combination. you can actually bypass the cabsims/valves in the simplifier unit and use hx's cab instead? how did you connect the simplifier to hx? thru simplifier's send or TRS out? (saw one in the manual) then connect to hx's send/return loop? and can i connect the simplifier to a real power amp with real cabinet? thanks in advance
Very clever to pair an Analog preamp with pedals & IRs. That's what i've been doing with Joyo American Sound / Sansamp PSA 2.0 + Nux Solid Studio. Kind of a cheaper version but it gets the job done. Analog preamps usually tend to take pedals much better than digital modellers.
What's up! I'm very intrigued by this board. Im going to make a smaller version of it for a more analog feel. A quick question for your el cap and dig. Did you have to get them both modded for external tap tempo from your clock? Disaster areas website says the dig can be controlled, but the el cap cannot. What company did you use for the mod?
I've just purchased the DLX Humbolt and struggling to connect it to the Helix so can make the most of post helix effects etc? I've connected out of helix send L/R >DSM in with stereo splitter cable, L/R out of DSM>return L/R to Helix…..can't get helix post effects to work after FX stereo block on helix.

Great sounds man! @3:52 you mentioned you were clipping…was this from the wet effects? And was the clipping in the Stomp or the DAW?
I’m running a similar setup (ACS1 – bypassed cabs, & Iridium for IRs) currently my delay and verb cause clipping at my interface, during higher gain tones.
Hi, I have had the simplifer for a while, I love it's preamp because of how good it takes drive pedals, I just got the HX stomp, wondering how I would set it up, maybe not use the effects loop in the simplifier, and use it as a regular preamp pedal, send to my wey effect and go into the input of the HX stomp?
Does the simplifier have the Sag effect? Hx stomp preamp has the Sag control which i think simulates the tube effect. Any thoughts on this aspect?
Can I ask, specifically which IRs?

Great job. Sounds really good man. I have question tho, do you have any latency or "feel" issue??.. I wanna create a small rig. I have the stomp and been thinking to getting my hands on simplifier deluxe version. I'm an analog guy and never been satisfied with the digital response for live perform setting. In recording I don't mind, I primarily use Vst like Helix Native etc. But for live I really need that instant response, I think you know exactly what I mean.

Nice job, David! Just wanted to confirm: you’re running drives in to the input of the simplifier, mono send out to your wet effects, then have the stomp at the end? Any strange phasing or sound issues with having the wet effects after the amp but before the IRs (or is that identical to an FX loop)?

Why don't you run the wet effects through the fx loop inside the stomp and place them behind the irs?
Good stuff – it was your previous build that convinced me to get the DSM.
Heads up – the Deco sums to mono for the double-tracker side, so if the Microcosm has a stereo in (iirc it does?), try running the Deco before it instead to preserve your image.
Already ordering the humble electronic cab Sim tomorrow I got the stomp also so I have a feeling it's going to be a great combo
