It is tuned half step lower bruh
Absolute genius bass line. Incredible respect for the one and only MIKE DIRNT!
he wrote that line high on acid apparently
it’s like a Dsus2 or an E dominant 7
I love this bass line
Tasteful dissonance is a cool thing, but it has to be used sparingly.
It's funny to watch this in depth look into a bass line Mike came up with on acid
its kinda embarassing that longview is such an impressive song
That was the first song I learned on the bass and it’s still fun to play
What do you think about this model, fender jazz special in comparison to american standard p basses? Thanks in advance!
And to think he wrote this while laying on his back tripping on acid.
I learned this at 16. 41 now, and it's my warm up song. Never used a pick.
Except it was the 90s so everyone was tuning down a half step (open Db). ????
He didn’t have nearly as
Much gain on his bass
I love this the only problem is, mikes playing this in e flat standard not e standard, other than that this is spot on
She, Sassafras roots, Welcome to Paradise, When I Come Around. These songs and Longview were some of the first bass lines I learned and are my favorite ones to play to this day. Pretty much every song off Dookie actually. Mike can play counter melodies like nobody’s business.
Great Bassline. It was Hip and Groovin.
I like American Scott even better than the British one.
Woow ive never realized they had this open d string going on. Cool❤.
You have to do a half step slide into the first double stop.
You make me want to learn bass.
Great line
Matt freeman the father of punk rock
Ey thank you for making bass video in punk genre. I thought this channel was too cool for punk bass line ????
Suspended 2nd, and major 7th
why is the camera shaking?
It sounds like you’re playing the in standard tuning, but I am pretty sure it’s played tuned half a step down
I never knew it was played like that but it's really interesting because there's a lot of goofy stuff I play exactly like that
Funny to think of Green Day as "classic". I remember when this song came out, and it doesn't seem THAT long ago…
The simplified version of this was the first bass line I lured when I returned to the bass after a 10 year spell
Fun fact: he was off his head on acid (the hallucinogenic drug) when we wrote this bass line
you’re supposed to play with hammer ons
I had just picked up a guitar when Dookie hit. The guitar parts were simple, the bass lines are what made all those songs unique.
Ooof a pick….
The variation after the first chorus I think is just as beautiful and unique.
Just bought the album in CD, amazing songs
That came out when I was in high-school and I always loved that bass line.
This is a neat for making what I once thought was a hackneyed bass part seem classic.
