How to Get GREAT Bass Guitar TONE!
How to Get GREAT Bass Guitar TONE!
In this video, I’m comparing the raw camera mic and performance with the bass DI recording to show how important your playing is to your great bass guitar tone and overall sound.
First, you’ll hear a hard & heavy slap bass funk groove captured with a raw camera mic – no editing, no effects, just the natural room sound. This highlights the raw bass guitar tone before any processing.
Then, you’ll hear the same take, this time using the direct audio recording from the bass, with only a small touch of EQ (high-pass at 20 Hz, low-pass at 12 kHz) to clean up the edges. This recording demonstrates how the great bass guitar tone is influenced by your instrument and technique. For this recording, I used a Radial JDI and a Fender Jazz ’64 Custom Shop bass.
No compression, no effects, just fingers, feel, and groove – a true testament to the great bass guitar tone you can achieve.
