Don’t Chase the Note with Your Throat – How to Hit Higher Notes!

#shorts

Every singer wants to hit higher notes.

Unfortunately, many vocalists feel that they have to raise their larynx or squeeze the note in order to hit higher pitches in their voice.

Today, I’ll share one of my favorite tricks for hitting high notes without straining.

  • Min far han var en sømand

Og fisk det var min mor

Og jeg har haft et ønske

    Siden jeg var et nor

En spinkel drøm her i mit bryst

  • Is this even true? Because I have this little problem where most high song I can sing almost perfectly but I don't understand the reason for me not being to reach some higher notes in the same songs that I can already dominate. I practice and comeback later and let you know if it worked. Thanks.

  • I find that singing like Carl Wheezer is a good way to get high notes. Trust me, it works when you layer your vocals.

  • I worked through a program that had exercises to strengthen the band of muscle around the larynx, and made it easy and natural to have a more dropped larynx and open sound. A great side effect was a mixed voice, that can now easily change registers and hit high notes without having to force them.
I’m glad I didn’t damage my voice forcing my chest voice up when I was younger.
A relaxed larynx is key! Thank you.

  • Bro, this is awesome. I've been singing for 30 years, and I just started exploring my instrument. So when I have a high note, open throat, drop larynx, yawn or do the goofy tone to achieve it, and keep practising that technique. Thanks, bro, I have subscribed.

  • I can hit C5-D5 easy without straining. But E5 is my one problem. I end up feeling the back of my throat tense up, which is probably and sign in really reaching to the note with my larynx.

My range goes down to an E2, so I'm really close to a thrid octave. Just getting there is tough.

  • I used to train with a small candy in the center of my tongue, and the fear of sufficate instinctively made me put all my mouth and throat in the yawning position. But is very dangerous. ????

  • I really hate when the ones teaching this are so called professionals but the ones who should be teaching these should be cover artists and acoustic artists like not some random guy i think i would learn more from the singers themselves but they dont really do tutorials its sad

  • Does this apply to false chord or vocal fry screamimg for metal like vocals? Cause whenever i scream my larynx always goes up even if i scale back on the intensity of the scream it still moves up. I do try to get proper mouth position so i dont need to apply any excessive pressure via exhalation to make words etc while screaming

  • what the hell does it even mean?? the vocal cordes need pressure to release a higher note 😀

  • So when my throat/neck starts to hurt a little after singing for 20 minutes, is this because I’m just chasing the notes all over the place???

  • For me it’s kinda the other way round – I have no troubles hitting high notes, they feel kinda natural to me. But when I want to go deeper I never quite get it right and I have to yawn instantly- why is that?

  • Another reason why some singers can't hit high notes is because as they age, they lose muscle mass which causes them to lose notes off the top of their range.
