your explanation is brillinatly simple and all i have to do is memorise the shapes of all strings and i know my chords. please keep making these vidoes. you have a life long subscriber in me.
please explain how is the c chord on the d string not similar to the open d shape and behind the fretting finger instead of ahead of the fretting finger in the case of other barre chords. why is it the f shape and not d shape. and why the d shape is on the b string?

This is crazy. He says this is 'better than CAGED', then goes right ahead and plays 4 of the 5 CAGED shapes up the neck (for some reason he misses out the G shape). I'll pass.

Lots of great info in this lesson, only complaint i have is counting up each string to the note youre looking for. This is not practical. People should learn the notes of each string and be able to count up AND down quickly.
I've been trying to figure this out FOREVER, it's like I knew there was a trick to it, but I just didn't get it, the string pattern/root note thing was like eye opening, I know my scales and yet I've been stuck in 1st position forever

What shape do I hold if I wanted to play A C cord on the high E string? Or any g a b what chord shape do I hold… when the note I'm trying to play is on the high E string the thinnest string?

C on fret on b string Has an octave lower stri on a string fret 3 and the same pitch is going to be on e6 string fret 8 but this is the bass note not the treble ,g string fret 5 is the middle c pitch ,same as b string fret 1 ,so b string 2 fret 1 to a string fret 3 is the same as e 6 string fret 8 with its octave being the g string fret 5 ,in caged g string fret 5 ie g shape is going to to have its lower octave on e fret 8, that is g shape, I taught myself the caged system not knowing it was the caged system,I used it for chords scales and octave maps,what you do not get is there is no way to move away from caged ,it is th3 fretboard itself , from c to c b to b a to a g to g e to e f toF d Tod they are all caged no matter how hard you try to change that, even if you base your root note on e 8 a 8 ,a 10 ,the quality of the chord major or minor ,will end up with the octave higher being. Caged like e8 is g 5 ,a 8 is is d b fret 5 or g on a string fret 10 octave is b fret 8, your doing no one favors discounting caged fretboard maps
