In this vox amplug review we discuss all the features of the popular Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Mini Amp and how I use it for practicing purposes without annoying the hell out of my family.
Well what can I say: The Vox AC30 is handy and affordable. They kept the functionality easy and straight forward, no unnecessary knick-knacks. As mentioned in the video, I haven’t used the AUX input too much but I can see that being helpful especially for playing along with backtracks that you keep on your I-Phone or other compatible device.
The Amplug is powered by two AAA batteries, they come with the device (at least that was the case when I ordered mine via Amazon.). I still have the first set of batteries, so if you make sure that you always switch it off when done playing, they last for a long time.
Okay, the following question seems to be of huge interest: can I use the Vox amPlug AC30 with a regular amplifier and can I also use the device with effect pedals? Well, I haven’t personally tried to connect it into a regular amp, but based on the comments you see below, that seems to work for the folks who actually did that. As far as pedals are concerned: yes, you can use any guitar pedal in combination with the AC30 amplug. I tried it with my BigMuff Pi and it works perfectly fine. So, to be clear: connect your pedal to the guitar — then plug the Ac30 amplug into the pedal. You can then either connect you headphones or PC speakers to the device and let the sound flow..;-)
The best part of the Vox Amplug ac30 Guitar Headphone Amp is the price, and well, what you get for your money, meaning the quality. I don’t think you can beat that with any other comparable device. I also really like the fact that they kept things very simple and easy to use. Oh, that reminds me of another good point: the case/frame is made of plastic and the device is very light. It already survived a couple of accidents (dropped to the floor), a testament to a sturdy built.
Again, it comes highly recommended. A surprisingly good sound coming out of that little thing, in my opinion. Ideal to practice and getting an amplified sound. Works well with any type of regular headphones of PC speakers. Definitely a good investment.

What about the drum machine
I like that classy AC30 clean tone
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
I've noticed that those little things come in 8 different models, but they all look pretty much the same. My question is, do they all sound different or is it just the colors that are different? There's a Metal version, a Lead version, Classic Rock, Clean, Bass, Blues, Cab speaker and the AC30. Thanks in advance.
They sound great but break very easily. If you fall in love with it, know you'll be buying more than one.
I love mine I have every model they make and love emm they sound amazing with a good set of studio headphones they sound full and bright like a real vox tube amp. It's good for living room practice while fiancee watches her women drama Kardashian garbage so we are still sounding time together and if you get a nice set of computer speakers it makes for a great sounding amp for a beginner that sounds better then any small beginner combo crap amo all for under 100 dollars for a nice amp and head phone amp. I use mine just for practicing mew songs doesn't and won't ever replace a 30 watt plus good quality tube combo amp for learning the pedal parts of a song abd practicing with effects abd pedals. I bought a few extra ones abd meded them abd they sound amazing with some mods in them louder abd better sounding through aux cord computer speakers
Which cable should be used to connect to guitar?
Can you use it on electric drum kit
Can it fit in strat tho?
Excellent review! Just bought one. I have the bass one already and it is so handy!!
is this decent for a beginner? i can't afford a good amp because i don't have a job yet
Cool
Wow this video is 8 years old
Jeez… get to the frickin' point! Too much time spent creating filler that only takes up the time of the viewer… off to another video about this product that does not waste my time!
It works with bass extremely well, amazingly enough. Yes, that's right – BASS. I was pretty surprised, but the sound is really nice and rich.
So your telling me i can listen to the amped sound through my headphones or speaker with this small gadget thats costs 30$. Sounds like a dream ahaha
can i also use pedals with this? and if it ca, can you tell me how? cheers
Thanks so much , I ll definitely buy one for my bass as I'm a beginner, to make sure I understand by plugging with earphones that means only I will hear the music playing and not my neighbors?
This is the best amp ive ever played. Im trying to find something similar in a bigger amp but not having any luck.
Mine lasted 2 hours. Caught once on strap and ripped the plug and wires right out of it. Waste of $65. Sounded alright but very cheaply made.
garbage
What kind of monster holds a pick between their middle finger and thumb?
Can i use that to my ukulele? Please answer ????
For practice, you will need only clean & distortion channel… that's enough… too many effect, channel & gear will make you play with sound more than practice. I hope for the more chip & simplest amplug in the future with:-
1. Bluetooth into the amplug fot backing track or drum machine from smartphone, mp3 player etc.
2. Rechargeable long time discharge battery with standard usb charger
3. Output to earphone by cable.
4. Only 2 channel. Ckean & distortion with a switch. No need any control or setting from smartphone.
5. Volume knob only. Gain & tone can be adjusted by guitar volume & tone knob to make it crunch, blues, rock or metal.
6. Automatic power off if diconnected from the guitar.
Is it available for bass
Nice vid good tutorial I'm getting one
You should enunciate more
Purchased the AC30, not sturdy housing at all. The first one I purchased, the jack shorted out within a couple of weeks. Purchased a replacement, the axillary didn't work at all after three days, and I'm just a lap picker. IMO the sound is great but the price should like a $10 – $15 considering the plastic parts and fairly easy breakage, again just my opinion.

Yeah nice axe !!!
Can you run effects such as Reverb / Delay, Phase etc. through that unit?
Very nice looking SG. I just recently got the classic version of the AmPlug 2 and these little units are sweet.
I think my next will be the ac 30 as I would think it be different from classic whereas the blues one I’m also considering is probably fairly similar.
I really like the tone on your ac30 when the tone was about half and gain was on the higher end. That was nice sweet. Got a little brash for me with tone too high.
I’ve found I can even get a nice clean tone that gets a little grit when I dig in on the green channel on my classic.
I am going to get a 6’ extension cable so that I can have the amp where I want (on table in front of me with my IPAD) and not flopping around on the guitar.
Thanks for review and good job.
Im so poor this thing is better than my shitty amp
Can we plug it to a pedal fx? (Guitar -> pedal fx -> headphone amp)
Thanks! This looks to be a cool little accessory for practicing! Vox should add Bluetooth so you could connect it to a friends speaker if hanging out in order to play for them. BTW to the more than 500 people who gave this a thumbs down… are you upset this mini practice amp exists?
Vc é brasileiro ?
Why even mess with the tone most people would have it maxed out just like most people only use bridge pickup
Can you plug into your phone?
Aqui no Brasil deve custar 1 milhão.
sounds like shit
Dale rey no me cuentes tu historia ponete a tocar

Horrible review
I have ordered it 3 weeks ago. Still waiting. Shitty virus. Thx.
It has an A.U.X
Playing a Sabbath riff was very cool. Thanks for the review!
Any connection to my hi fi system?
So where does the power come from if it[s plugged into a headphone? Assume the pickup is passive.
Try the Cyclope by Eko guitars!
