This I – IV Lick Sounds Silky Smooth… #bluesguitar

???? Blues Lick of The Day #11

Here I’m playing a lick that flows through the transition from the I chord to the IV chord in the key of A.

Notice how the double-stop bend played on the top two strings has me targeting the major 3rd of the IV chord – D7, as soon as it appears in the progression?

Targeting major 3rd’s of the three chords in a 12-bar blues is something I highly recommend you start practicing in your blues improvisation. It will free you from the limitations of a purely scale-based approach to blues guitar soloing that many aspiring blues players find themselves trapped in.
