Thank you Ozzy Osbourne for all you gave to rock and roll may you rest in peace.

Learn how to play Paranoid as performed by Black Sabbath released on the Paranoid album from 1970. Great example of the birth of rock/metal.

The lesson covers the guitar parts played by Tony Iommi including rhythm and lead. ALSO I show you how you can achieve/approximate the unique lead guitar sound you hear on the album by using a Ring Modulator in your signal chain. Here are a couple examples you can find at Sweetwater. I used the Red Panda Radius.

  • Super clear, as usual! Thanks so much! Could you do some time in the future a Steppenwolf's the Pusher guitar lesson? I'd love it. Thanks again.

  • This is as good as "Ozzy's" Bark at the Moon composition. Too bad he couldn't play and sing at the same time, especially since he can't really sing..But he's like Barry Manalow, he "writes the songs," and not just the music, but the lyrics. How will we survive without his talent.

  • I love early Sabbath and Tony Iommi is just amazing, but every time I hear this song I always picture him listening to communication breakdown and just saying to himself "okay how can I move this around a little and come up with something a bit different"… I just can't help hearing communication breakdown in the main riff…just reshuffled a bit. Still great btw. And yes, I know Page borrowed a lot of stuff too; they all borrowed from each other, so just had to put that disclaimer out there (lol) just wondering if anybody else kind of hears that as well…? As usual great tutorial!!

  • Such a great song. Iommi is a monster player. I saw Sabbath a few times in the 80's starting on the Mob Rules tour. So powerful and Dio was great. RIP John Ozzy Osbourne.

  • The end of the solo in the E box is so tough to get right. It was such an off the cuff solo take. I notice he doesn't do that part live. He does descending thing that works. Cool effect! ???? Nice lesson

  • From what I understand, we might not have had this song at all if the album hadn't been so short (which required them to write another song). It's funny how things work out.
