WHY DON’T AMERICANS PLAY ENGL AMPS??

Why don’t Americans play ENGL amps? Same reason Europeans don’t play as much Mesa/Boogie. ENGLs are expensive and rare in the United States. But they sound so, SO good.

  • The best Marshall sound I ever heard live was KISS. It was a Hughes and kettner and an ENGL. hahaha ????

  • Engl and Hughes and kettner are so good, German amps are the most underrated amps out there. The best and most versatile amps out there

  • I have a Powerball Mk1 and it's the best amp I've ever played. I traded my JCM900 for it, and while I do miss the JCM sometimes, the ENGL is just so damn good I could never regret that trade.

  • My first “real” amp was a Engl Fireball 100 run into a Orange 4×12. Miss the UK Hardcore days. Still my favourite head of all time.

  • The problem with these (fantastic) amps is price and availability – similar to the Mesa Boogie problem that Europeans always had. Not sure if that has changed.

  • I don’t know .. but the Made in Germany has something special to it .. than just name the product .. it’s always awesome ..quality and prestige .

  • Me at the intro: “Ooh ooh I know! They all three have wayyyy more money than me!”

    Agufish: “They all play ENGL!”

    Me:“See?! I was right!!”

  • too compressed for my taste, lack of dynamics when you rolled down your guitar volume. These amps are made for metal and that’s it.

  • I did the tone searching thing for a while, and because of that I’ve owned a few amps (Mesa Boogie, EVH, ENGL, PRS, Fender, Peavey, Boss, Rola and a Quad Cortex). In the end I’ve sold or am in the process of selling all of them except the Rola Bob Balch and the ENGL Fireball. They are simple to dial in and use, sound the best, can be played quietly or uncomfortably loud, and are built like tanks.

  • I first heard their amps being used by metal bands, Mudvayne, Symphony X. German companies like Engl and Diezel make great metal amps.

  • I used to play Mesa. I tried the duel rectifier twice, meaning I owned two of them on separate occasions and absolutely could not get along with that amp. I really liked my Tri-Axis and simul 2:90, but I had no use for 128 pre sets. So I ended up with a Marshall DSL2000 around 2002 (when it’s still sounded good????). I always wanted to try an Engl, but there’s nowhere to test drive one where I live.
I’ll have to look into that more.

  • Been playing engl amps since 2010 and while I love American made amps I always gravitate back to engl

  • Too compressed sounding don't like it… Gave it away and bought Laney GH100L for fraction of the price and monstrous sounding too

  • I bought a Powerball II and an ENGL v30 4×12 back in high school around 2017 using money I got from a summer job. I think I paid around ~$2.5k total.

    Still have both.
