Vintage Fenders, Gibsons, and Gretsches get the job done for one of Nashville’s veteran studio players.
Trusted session guitarist Sol Philcox-Littlefield, known for his work with Luke Combs, Tim McGraw, Kelsea Ballerini, and Elle King, among many others, was at Nashville’s FrontStage Studios for some recording work recently, and he invited PG’s John Bohlinger to get a look at all the tools he uses to cut a stellar country record.

A Roland RE 501 was my main Guitar Effect for 5 years other than a Compressor and a Chanlder Tube driver waaaaayy back 1982 till 1987.
I think we're the same age… I should have buckled down
Wow, I think I watched some videos of Sol maybe… 20 years ago? Must have been in the beginning of youtube and he was playing a white telecaster back then… and looked a bit like Tom Delonge =) Glad I found him again!
That's a nice guitar collection – and one that is being put to good use!
Pretty awesome gear set up! His LP sounds a bit like my 74 custom! And for anyone curious, the aux switch on the H90 is from Barn3.
Sorry John, this is too long to even consider watching. As much as Iove the Rig Rundowns, 1 1/2 hours is ridiculously long for my old feeble mind brother. I see the name Jelly Roll in the title, I'm sorry to say, I can't take him seriously either. The weird outfits and hip hop thing are too much for gramps here.
I like him, cool episode. And I’m with him on the green tortex picks .
Nice rundown. You've lost the accent ???? Superb interview and playing. ????
I would call that a Root Beer finish on the strat – looks awesome
Wow, Sol loves a good bargain too!
Man, that 67 ES Custom Shop????
Great rundown! Man I love Sol's playing such great feel.
Great interview!
That was an hour and 30 minutes well spent!????????
I dont know this player at all but watching his intro jam I can feel his influences. good touch
What a bad ass collection of gear. Just some killer tones with some really fun gear. Thanks for inspiring us.
I think I owned that Silvertone years ago. Sold it to Chris Swope. Sorry I did.
That Jazzmaster sounds f***ing amazing!
This is one of my favorite rig rundown vids so far. Great guy who knows his gear, great stories and what a talent he is playing all kinds of styles. Thanks to Sol and PG for this rig rundown! Greetings from the Netherlands.
Yeah, creative seeding of ideas to crack the code.
Day one of begging premier guitar to get Julie on rig rundown.
Sol sounds equally 33.3 Aussie 33.3% Southern, 33.3% English
I have a 65 Tennessean I bought from the 1st owner .. love it probably one of my favorites
Honored to get a mention in this awesome interview with the amazing Sol Philcox-Littlefield!
Sol produced this most recent albumc called Into-ition and absolutely crushed it—his ear, guidance, and musicianship were next level in capturing the vibe of these tunes!
Also, shoutout to the Guytron GT100 F/V… such a killer, musical and versatile amp!
Cool. Love the way you play, Sol.
Sol is the best of the best! Glad to see him getting recognition that is well deserved!
nice rundown, but a Guytron GT-100 isn't just a hot rodded Marshall…
That telecaster sound so fat in the bridge position. Great tone. Another great interview from John !
That telecaster sound so fat in the bridge position. Great tone. Another great interview from John !
Really boring when he gets to talking
Big Time McCartney!
I remember watching early Saul videos when he was literally a kid and he was unbelievable then! Even better now. Major kudos for brining out the Cry of Love/Audley Freed “Highway Jones” riff. Awesome!!
What is up with English and Australian country guitar players just slaying it in country music?
Albert Lee,
Sol Philcox-Littlefield,
Keith Urban,
Jedd Hughes etc.
Whatever is in the water in those countries seem to be producing tone and innovative technique monsters.
such as great rig rundown!! Casual, fun and informative! Thanks to you both. john is a fantastic interviewer- let's it go where it goes and stays relaxed and positive always…and know his stuff. Sol- awesome to become familiar with him- a gentleman.
I love all of his guitars!! That Strat sounds exactly how a Strat should sound!
Sol is the man.
