I've always used the 3 finger method and it works well for me. Gotta try his way though for sure.
that's a aggressive way to show the third part of the pattern
Depends on the song but when he is flying, going with the 3 fingers can sound better. Only the Good Die Young is the example. But yeah he’s a menace
And if you need to do the gallop slower, look at "Stranger in a Strange Land" or "Alexander the Great".

I find your original method much easier.
"One, One, Fuck you, One, Wanker." is what i got from this.
This actually kinda makes sense because then the first finger is playing a steady rhythm and the second is hitting the extra notes for spice.
thats the technique my hand naturally started doing!!
