Christ this guy was a brat when he was young lol
This man hasn’t aged ???? he still looks like 13 xD
40000 WORTH IT. I spent that much on alcohol lol booze VS music come on man
Gibson and Epiphone are not the same I play a Epiphone and I like it more than most Gibsons that I've played so far I have to say tho I've never played a well setup Gibson only the ones hanging in guitar stores never really liked them but still want one ????
It won’t make you happier, sound better, improve your quality of life. It’s fun but there are far more affordable hobbies. Comics, art, plants! After 5-7 guitars you’re just repeating yourself. You’ll get better just committing to 1 or 2.
I agree with most of this. Even the part about Mesa being too boomey for most genre's…. except… the Mesa 50 Caliber+ 1×12 combo 6L6 version. O M G ! ! ! It's glorious!!!!
Based on the title of this video, I can’t watch it. But I will say I was a successful business owner and was doing great.
Then my lifelong depression started getting worse. I was 35, and in a few years was almost able to retire, but deep down I knew something was wrong, and at the age of 40, my life was going to change and not for the better.
I’ve been trying to learn guitar for over 30 years, and would just get frustrated because I couldn’t get good at it as quickly as I wanted to. And I didn’t practice. Typically things came natural to me, but this required a lot of work and dedication, which because of my OCD and other mental issues, I couldn’t focus on.
I went to see a psychiatrist. Next thing I know, I was on a bunch of medications. That’s when my life went downhill. They just made me numb. That’s when I began tone chasing. That’s when I began spending money. That’s when my addiction of guitars and amps began.
I don’t know the exact figure, but the time came I had to ask my accountant where my money had gone. She told me in one year alone I spent $600,000.
But because of my mental state, things just weren’t a reality. I never used credit cards before, just a business card that I paid off each month.
So I got a personal card. And another. And another.
Finally the medications took over my health, both psychologically and emotionally, and physically. I started sleeping in my closet. All my nervous system was going nuts. I became a rekluse and couldn’t leave.
Finally a friend stopped by to see Gibson boxes all over the place. Most unopened. He called my parents. My poor parents who are in their 80s. They had to drive 2500 miles to come get me. To take care of me. I have tons of gear to sell, but it’s difficult to complete easy tasks, let alone things like that.
It’s been 3 years. I’m still working on it. But I’ve gotten better. But even small physical tasks wear me out. Today I cut down 3 tree limbs for my 86 year old dad. It took about 20 minutes, and I was sweating like a pig, and just exhausted. I’ve been having heart issues, probably because of the weight I’ve gained.
I still have a long road ahead. A hard one. But little by little I’m seeing some light. But the biggest one is after living alone for 25 years and only seeing my parents around twice a year, I see them every day now. It’s hard to see them age, but it’s better than never seeing them again at all.
I’m trying my best. And I actually practice the guitar about daily now. There are still many days and nights I don’t want to be here in life anymore, as I’ve done so much and accomplished so many things. But I can do it again. I know it’s hiding in there somewhere.
So I’m writing this because of your headline. I don’t know if it’s even actually about money.
But I will say I’m trying to change my thinking of what a loser I’ve become, to “I spent $600k to spend the rest of my life with my parents. And that is worth every penny.” ????????
Makes me wonder how the new Epiphone's stack up to a Les Paul? Like the new Jeff Beck 54' that's $1299 and has Custombuckers in it.
That’s almost a new VOS Kirk Hammet Les Paul Greeny at $50,000 lol
$40,000 on gear and you learned this: You're not good with money.
????40,000 holy crap learn to build them save a ton and get what you want
Gonna be hard to get sponsors with that title.
We honey i learned my ĺesson. I have a lot of guitars and good ones keyboards and my recording layout cost a mere 30k easy thats my bedroom studio. Im set i have interface stuff 32 tracks of recording and one free mixer. I have Gibson Epiphone Jackson Ibanez and Fender Squire from Les Pauls Stratocaster Hollowbodys and Super strats. Im set. Korg Yamaha Kurzweil Hammond Roland Casio EMU and Alesis Keyboàrds and pedals by Boss,DIGITEÇH TC ELECTRONICS AND ROLAND AND KORG TOO.
I have bought an Valeton GP-200 and have it on my board with an another looper as well as a booster, a second expression pedal and a wireless setup. Bought an Jassmaster and I’m happy with it. It gives me the sound and the freedom to play close too any genre I want. So you don’t need multiple guitars or 20 pedals. Let it as simple as it gets for you to have fun with it.
Hasn’t mark Speer used the same strat and same damn pick for twenty five years? ????
I understand you get what you pay for but if your 13 year old self waited to buy an LP you might not have started playing until you were 18. There are killer mid priced guitars out there now, buy one and start practicing
The difference between those 2 guitars is that they are 2 different guitars not that one is an Epiphone and the other is a Gibson….
'Setup'…..SETUP and then there's setup…. Understand your tools.
40+years in and some nice guitars my #1 is an 80's Fujigen Factory Strat..an Odessa with a few basic upgrades… yep had never heard of it either…
There's no perfect gear..
There is good and shit though..
Buy Good enough and learn to use it..
I've been through a lot of guitars and gear, but for me, having too much just feels cluttered and leads to overthinking. I've whittled my way down to a small, simple rig, and I think that's why I've been playing more; every piece of gear I use is my favorite.
I’m 29 years old. I live in a poor fly in reservation in Canada. I was born poor and grew up in a poor family. My mom got me an acoustic guitar when I was 12. She got it at a yard sale for 40 bucks. I practiced the hell out of that guitar. Then at 16 I worked and saved money for my first Marshall amp and epiphone les Paul. For 800 bucks. Then at 21, I saved and worked for a EVH Wolfgang Standard for 800 bucks Canadian. I just made an album of ten songs in my YouTube channel. I’m a singer, lead and rhythm guitarist, sound engineer and producer. At high school I took two guitar classes. What guitar school taught me was songwriting. All you need is a guitar and your voice, your mind, heart and soul. After all the most expensive and valuable person is yourself. You don’t need all that gear. I wish I had 40,000 dollars worth of guitars and gear. But I never needed that. Instead I made my songwriting skills worth millions of dollars. Songwriting is what most musicians and guitarists forget to practice. They focus on covering others instead of working hard to create great songs. Make great songs you don’t need all that fancy gear. You might need a few tools. For all the musicians and guitarists out there who are poor like me. Especially the poor kids like me. Never give up and pray to God for help too.
There is absolutely no reason to not buy a 2$ lotto ticket. Unless your budget is just screwed down that tight, it doesnt make sense to not take a shot at the progressive jackpot. If your budget is screwed down that tight, ????. But I bet you spend 2$ on something we could construe as shit. That's probably 1/4 of the cost of your morning coffee.
Gotta love when a video just answers what the title implies. Great, solid points, and just a feel-good and inspiring take on price vs music made
"Be careful of a man that owns one rifle or one guitar, because he'll be good with it"……. I think Rory Gallagher proves this point…….
Great advice AJ! Many thanks and so true.
I don’t take advice from people that play on badly tuned guitars ????. Besides that, it is not the price but the sound and feel what makes a good guitar for a particular person. From €500-€700 it is not quality but name you are paying for.
that studio les paul is an absolute beauty!
You get what you pay for, absolutely. I don’t get Gibson hate, it really feels worth the money once you own one for a long time, it really does feel worth a couple grand 1000%. I LOVE my EPI SG (loaded with Gibson pups) but does it feel like my Gibson SG standard? Not even close. But does it have its own good qualities? Absolutely. Does it sound close to my standard, sure does, close enough for $400. Why can’t people just admit EPI is good and Gibson is good, but Gibson just has higher quality- why is this so sensitive for many players? I bet it has nothing to do with guitars and everything to do with insecurity, jealousy, and frustration
