Fishman Fission Bass Powerchord FX pedal review

I bought the Fishman Fission Powerchord FX pedal to hopefully fill out the sound in my cover band when the guitar player takes a solo. It is not going to work for me. I guess I’ll just have to quit being cheap and try an EHX HOG. I created this video with the YouTube Video Editor (https://www.youtube.com/editor)

  • Well, your problem is, you're trying to play two notes at the same time through a monophonic pedal, so it's not that the pedal doesn't know what to do, it's you who don't know what to do.

  • In the video, because you are using such a small amp, it’s not perceptible if you’re using the 5th feature or just the octave. Plus, one mistake everyone seems to do, is play finger style and expect the octave sound like a “power chord”.

  • Appreciate the review, I think everyone's missing the point of this pedal, it plays a guitar chord for every note you hit. If you want to play something all over the neck just get a rhythm guitarist, you play a riff starting in f# and it includes a hammer on/off riff and then a 2 note chord, could you imagine trying to play the exact riff but every note is a chord? So why expect the pedal to do so? If you play chord progression type notes on the low e and a strings then it works just fine(add a distortion pedal before the amp) but if you're trying to play something like a greenday song this pedal doesn't make sence to use. I find an octave pedal works better for the more complex playing

  • These things are great for straight single note bass lines. Any one in their right might would know that you cannot play 2 notes simultaneously with this pedal. This pedal is not designed for that. It's designed to give you an octave up & a fifth to your single root note to create a power chord. It's a great pedal if you know how to use it. Also… Do yourself a favor & run an equalizer on the effects side. This will smooth the sound out & give you a nice warm distortion in place of that tinny sound you're getting out of that guitar amp.

  • I imagine if you only use this during solos and "dumb" the bass line down, it should work fine, don't you think?

  • Thanks, I was thinking about getting one of these for use in my punk band to fill out the rhythm when our guitarist is soloing. We play very fast and I play a lot of double notes so I think I'll skip on this. Very helpful video!

  • On YouTube search (royal blood effects gt2) look for Alexander wright. Doesn't do the 5th but it does the octave and it's polyphonic so it doesn't glitch out when your playing two notes at the same time.
