  • Hi Aaron, can you share your tone on ToneNET and let us know the search keyword. Thank you for the great video.

  • Thanks for demonstrating the IR loader; I didn't realize they supported third-party IRs in addition to their models. (Fully agree with your plea to IK to implement acoustic IR capture tech).

This thing is way under-hyped. A low-latency, usb-powered interface that fits in your pocket…..crucially, with usable onboard modeling. This isn't a modeler, it's a fail-proof A/B switch for those of us wanting to use our laptop as a live rig. Full access to all of our plugins in a live context with minimal latency (in my case, Helix Native). And….fully capable on it's own should the laptop crash. IK likely introduced this as a loss leader to get people into their ecosystem, but they may have inadvertently provided us the piece of hardware needed to finally move on from hardware-based tone ecosystems entirely.

    Edit: ah….unbalanced output.

  • Hello, I'm Brazilian. I would like some important information from you. Can you tell me if Tonex One allows you to blend/mix in the IR section? So that I can make a blend between the original piezo sound and an IR, like leaving only about 30/40% of the IR only and the other remaining the sound of the piezo itself?

  • Coming from LR Baggs Voiceprint here. That unit can be noisy when there is no "clean" electricity. So I switched to ToneX One. Great unit. Only thing that bugs me is I get the best result when I look for a mix between the original signal and the amp/IR in the ToneX. After this, the gain/volume knob on the unit only works for the part that is processed.

  • Thanks a lot Aaron. Your video is not just helpful if you want to use the TO as an acoustic amp but also helps me to understand the installation of the TO as an interface. What drives me crazy still is that your Tonex software seems to have HOME, MODELER and LIBRARIAN in one screen. My software of the editor only has EDITOR and LIBRARIAN. Can you help me out with this one?

  • I chose this video for some ideas for using Tonex and Tonex One with my James Tyler Variax acoustic tones. I own both the Tonex Pedal and the Tonex One Joe Satriani model and want to have a great acoustic platform in both.

  • @aaronshortmusic how does this compare to the TC Electronic Impulse IR Loader and your previous pick for acoustic guitar, the NUX Optima Air?

  • The IR ofcourse sounds overall better, but thats trough headphones only in my expirience. live they tend to rumble and feedback easily and most important sound very muddy. i personaly am trying to make a like crossover IR that handles only high mids and above while piezo handles bass and that ever problematic 200hz. Something like Anthem does. Wich makes me want to just put the Anthem in and be done with it. Thanks for another great video Aaron! My Tonex one is coming this week!

  • Hi Aaron, great video. I found your approach to using Tonex with acoustic guitar really interesting. Let me ask you something.

I have a cheap acoustic guitar with a decent piezo pickup, a Fishman. It sounds reasonably good, and I use it plugged into a VoiceLive 3. I use the reverb and modulation effects from the VoiceLive 3. However, I still think I can improve its plugged-in sound with an IR.

Do you know if I could get a good result using Tonex for the IRs at the beginning of the signal chain and then sending the signal into the VoiceLive 3 to use its reverb and modulations? Would there be any kind of latency?

    thanks, man

  • The Tonex Editor I received with my pedal doesn't have an "Advanced" (ie, the part with EQ outside of the Amp modeler) option. I'm thinking it's Tonex SE?

  • Excellent info, super clear and easy to follow, IK sometimes seem to make flow difficult yet all the features are there

  • Thanks for the great video! How do you think this would fare, for live use, trying to make a little Gretsch Gin Rickey guitar with a Deltoluxe magnesium pickup, into sounding like a bigger guitar?

  • Ive just planned to replace my Fishman aura and reverb pedal with a Tonex One. This will complement my Tonex One on my board I use for electric guitar. Great video. Thanks.

  • Man Fishman and LRbaggs need to get with the program they are missing product opportunities .

  • Really useful and detailed as usual???????? I agree with you: acoustic ir’s are still slightly harsh and a bit artificial. The only way to enjoy them is a continuous A/B with the ugly raw piezo tone

  • Thanks Aaron. I purchased the Tonex one purely on the strength of this video. I've tried just about everything to get a decent amplified acoustic guitar sound, and have never been happy. So far, even with the Tonex one I can't say I'm 100% happy, but I'm getting closer. Before this video I didn't even know what an IR was.

After watching this video I downloaded some free IR's as close as I could get to my own guitar, and was really surprised how easy it was to get them into the Tonex one and they sound at least as good as the Fishman Aura I have been using. Maybe if I get round to making my own IRs, it could sound even better. Like you, I don't use a lot of effects but its great having them there .

Even though I already had Tonex max for recording, I don't use any eclectic guitar for live. So, I'm actually looking at the Tonex one purely as an acoustic guitar pedal. Without seeing your video, I wouldn't have had any idea whatsoever that this little pedal could do this. Even though Ik have acknowledged your video, I'm surprised they haven't made more of the pedals use for acoustic guitar. Excluding the ability to create acoustic guitar IRs , It pretty much does everything I would want it to do. With the editor coming soon, it can only get better.

  • You turn of the AMP in the video. Om my pedal that means I cannot adjust volume/gain with the main knob. What is Hour solution?

  • Thanks for the very helpful run through. I use it for my violin and viola. Regarding the EQ, I am a bit confused does below 5.0 cut and above 5.0 boost?

  • Great video Aaron. Would this be useable if a person has an android phone? Useable without the software? Thanks for any help.

  • Excellent video, you might remember that I asked if you were still interested in IRs in your "Live at NAMM" video. Thanks for introducing me to IRs. I'm using the M-Vave acoustic 3 button pedal and the software isn't even close to the Tonex options but you really setup the sounds and just use it. Great stuff Aaron!

  • Aaron, Great tutorial for using this as an acoustic all in one pedal. What is your global input level set at? I have a Tonex pedal for my electric rig which I've set the global input level to 0 to control the digital fuzziness of the Tonex. My current acoustic rig is a Martin HD-28 with a LR Baggs HiFi in it going through a NUX Optima air using the standard d45 preset IR into the PA. Just looking for a tone alternative and possibly save space on the board…:)

  • I went through this. The moment i unplug or quit the software the pedal gives me no sound in A B mode… is there a step i am missing to save it?

  • I think you need to engage the amp block for the EQ to work. I've loaded a clean preamp there. By the way I'm using the pedal with upright bass in A/B mode for pizz and arco accordingly and absolutely love it!

  • thanks Aaron, great video! Can you share your custom IR (dowina_48k_2048_std.wav) with us? I am very curious to try this out.

  • Good video, got me thinking about getting the pedal. In Amplitude 5, you can use a DI route to bypass the amp block, and it really replicates a studio-type sound (instead of having to use an amp + cab and turning them off). Thanks!

  • Hi Aaron, Thanks for the great video. I personally use my Tonex for acoustic as well and have discovered a tone model of the BodyRez pedal on Tonehunt. I'm sure you are aware of this pedal. I added it in as the amp along with an IR and it makes a world of a difference negating some of that annoying quack inherent to piezo pickups

  • Loved your demo of this pedal , the software would definitely want to well understood before even attempting to take this on stage , sounds amazing though and i might consider getting it , at the moment I have the NUX floor stageman acoustic preamp +Di and it sounds excellent on my old Takamine EN-10 , definitely need to update that , but i have just grown so fond of this axe , anyway tonex i think i will give it a lash after watching your excellent tutorial, keep up the good work ????
