Does this scale have a name? Or is it like a mix of notes from the pentatonic and major scale or something?
You're so handsome. I wanna kiss you
Your piano looks strangely like a horn :o~;
This is so confusing – he’s not explaining ANYTHING
Is there a version of you specifically for bass guitar? These shorts are super helpful but sometimes I'm unsure of how to adapt this info for my bass practice.

As a beginner wtf is a shape? What is a scale shape
F major key sounds like grocery store music
Pattern 3!
Aeolian Mode?
Anyone know what this scale is called?
can someone tell me the name of the scale?
Angsty Nova Scotian rage boi has oversimplified things by telling you you can improvise over a simple progression by learning an A minor box shape, which is pattern 4 from CAGED according to GIT curriculum.
Further, he says you can do this without needing to know the individual notes.
Except in a simple Am to C chord progression, the moment the chord changes to C, if you don't know where C is (starting from your pinky at 8th fret on low E string instead of from your pointer finger at A on 5th fret low E string), your improv will sound bad because you are playing A minor over C major.
(You can play C major over A minor, but a relative major over a minor chord is another topic.)
A is the major 6th of C major, but it is not a strong note to emphasize for reasons that go beyond this post.
My take?
Without knowing the notes in the scale or what intervals are, you can use this shape over a single minor chord only.
In this case, you can use this shape over A minor if you start from 5th fret, low E string with your index finger. To change keys, just move the pattern.
However, once a progression involves other chords, things become more complex.
Yes, you could blanket an entire progression in A minor with an A minor scale (say, Am, C, Em).
But if you emphasize the A too much over C major because you are playing shapes without knowing what the notes are, you run the risk of emphasizing the wrong notes over the wrong chords.
Tl;dr: Learn the notes on the fretboard and use this pattern over single minor chords. You can use this over a simple A minor progression but if you are not careful you may play the wrong note over the wrong chord.
You can do this with the minor pentatonic scale too, just learn about the relative majors
Man, Key=Fmaj is really taking me somewhere…
I don’t understand what’s happening tbh
For anyone curious dont read anything below the actually name of the scale is the Minor Diatonic scale..
Same for its realtive Major which would be called the Major Diatonic. The only difference is I believe you take out 2 notes from the scale..
You can do all the 7 modes on that same scale shape and same 4th fret
BrandonDeon da ???? no ????
Man F you for making me laugh at that trumpet joke twice
