  • Jeremy, read Jack wallin’s comment, because he’s absolutely correct. Why do so many prominent famous flat pickers play pre-war Martins? I think you’re wrong on the best guitar commentary. Tone Jeremy, Tone.

  • I definitely want to give a shout out to bromo they make incredible acoustics for a price point that's just unreal you get a lot of guitar for the money you pay

  • I disagree a little, people buy the guitars they identify with i.e. the ones that are associated with the music, artists or songs they like. Same with amps and pedals.

  • I can see through the marketing in this video. I’ll stick with my Martin. Checks every box I need and want.

  • Jeremy, whilst I agree with many comments about resale value – my Martin D-42 sold for more than I paid for it, and my Gibson J-45 will probably break even, – I don’t buy guitars for how much they may be worth, I buy for TONE. I think you have it right if you're talking about the tone, though of course, tone is highly subjective
The best 5 guitars I've ever played (and in 50 years, 25 as a professional musician, I've played literally hundreds) are made by Brook (small UK luthiers), Furch, Dowina and McIlroy). I have invested in my music business and own these guitars. In truth – apart from the McIlroy, which, being the 5th guitar he ever made, is a collector's item, these instruments wouldn't have great resale value, but I love them.

  • Agreed. I went down the rabbit hole of researching the tone of each of the woods that acoustic guitars are made of. I built my dream guitar in my head – Full dreadnaught, no cutaway, electronics so I could plug in, solid rosewood back and sides, premium spruce top….THEN I looked for brands that made that guitar…found only a couple…bought a Takamine P7D….I'll put it up against any Martin at twice the cost. LOVE IT!!!

  • Some of the best guitars I own, have played, are the ones off the shelf with some defects. Trust me I wouldn’t mind a luthier built guitar at all, they are beautiful, and always a testament to the talent of the builder. I don’t know why, when it’s not perfect it feels perfect. I’ve played the boutique stuff and it feels a little sterile.

  • I get what he’s saying but Martin and Gibson have 200 years of experience building amazing guitars. It’s hard to argue with that not to mention they hold value and in some cases even increase in value over time. That being said it’s hard to define what the best guitar is bc it’s a matter of opinion. I’ve had $100 dollar guitars that I loved right along with more expensive ones I loved.

  • Are there guitars like an Olson that sounds a record superb? Yes. But by and large, if you take a vintage or pre war Martin that costs the same amount of money, it will not only have amazing tone. It will go up in value. I have yet to play a Taylor, Huss and Dalton or virtually any other boutique guitar that compares to my pre war Martins and 40/50's Gibson's. It isn't even close! There's a reason that most luthiers haven't strayed from the Martin design from the mid 30's. I've my Santa Cruz, but it isn't even close to my Martins. I own an Olson. It's pretty much the perfect guitar for fingerpicking and recording, but it does not beat the tone of my pre war Martin 000's!

  • It becomes a matter of the best guitars that the buyer can afford. The boutique builders are often way beyond what most guitar buyers are able to afford. That brings us back to the best guitars is the one you are playing.

  • You can hardly do anything but strum. If you were John Mayer, maybe I’d listen to you. Or Tony rice. Guess what! They both owned Martins!

  • lol Cirrus, whatever, dude. What exactly makes it “the best” besides your opinion and all the feee and or discounted guitars you receive?
