Soundgarden At: Guitar Center
Celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the pivotal album that seemingly changed alternative rock, the guys from Soundgarden gave us an intimate look into their past. From Kim’s very first jam sessions in Cornell’s room to Ben’s Sisyphean task of learning every single cord on just the neck of a guitar. What we heard them say in Guitar Center Seattle was amazing, for fans and musicians alike.

Went through so many guitars in college until I settled on a Guild electric which was the only one that stayed in tune and felt great. Then again, I never knew how to setup a guitar back then … but Guilds are great guitars.
Three geniuses came together. I dont think by accident. For eternity. The soundgarden sound is so unique, simply awesome.
All top notch humans!!!
Remember when guitar center was cool?
Grunge has lost too many artists. So sad,
This just came up in my feed-I always thought the name Soundgarden said it all!
So how would your dad know that you learned every chord in the book if you had a guitar without strings? Not possible! Bullshit story!
His Dad, gave him a guitar chords book told him learn every chord.
Got him a bass instead????
I think it’s sad that Ben never realized that his dad actually bought him a bass guitar, not a guitar. Someone needs to tell this guy that he plays bass ????
Anyone else watch this with a huge sighhhhhh too at the end? ????
As a teenager in the 90's, I only paid attention to the loud guitars & drums. Now, that Chris is gone & I listen to his solo work, I have a deep appreciation for his voice.
four years ago I wrote a tale about these guys who are behind government that move among shadows , dark people who have control of everything, and handle the strings of the puppet presidents of USA, wallstreet, or whatever you see on media. It was my idea that jeffrey epstein didn´t die and some guys sent by these dark people took him out of prision and faked his death. Then I had in mind when Chris died, it wasn't clear but what I remember is that he was going to reveal information about these shadow or dark people behind governments that are guilty of so many crimes in history, and he was taken by some ghosts I mean hired hitmen who made his death appear as a suicide because they didn´t want him to reveal such information.
I remember reading Ben Shepard's story about learning how to play on just a neck with no strings and a chord book when I saw an article with Soundgarden in Guitar World. I've been impressed with him as a musician ever since. The dedication it takes to sit with a book of patterns on a piece of wood (I'm a guitar player and trust me there are A LOT of patterns to learn) and memorize patterns with no satisfaction of hearing your progress or freedom to experiment and figure things out from songs along the way while you are practicing the fundamentals is unreal. I couldn't have done it. I would have just walked away from guitar playing completely if I was forced to play that way. I needed the dopamine hits of writing my own little melodies and figuring out parts to songs to keep me engaged with the learning process. That story blew my mind when I read it over 20 years ago. It still blows my mind today.
great information !
I'm bummed I never got to see these guys live. Chris is up there with Freddie Mercury as just an all-time great rock singer. And Kim's playing is so badass. So unique with the crazy tunings and a bunch of trippy scales and challenging phrases. Great band, man.
Hats off to one of the finest bands I have ever heard and seen. Lucky enough to have seen them twice. RIP Chris.
What guitar does Chris have
fucking coward
Tat fuzzy dirty distortion sound Kim gets!????
God, I love the riff to Superunknown!
If you got to see these guys live.Theres nothing like it..Ogden,Utah Fairgrounds 1994.Chaos in a rodeo arena..Chris' Security threw a disrespectful dude into to the crowd..
Baby,,,,,gotta have block inlays and non-metal tunning headZ!!!!!
Dammit ! Chris! Big fan of Soundgarden from the beginning.
It's been a minute since I've fell down a Soundgarden rabbit hole. I'll catch you guys in a bit
There are some people in this world who make a real dent. It’s hard to accept that Chris is gone. I’m not exactly sure why, other than finding him hugely inspiring as a musician myself, but I never got over this one. I really felt that loss.
I found the sadness of it all so profound, because his songs often had a haunting quality already. His work is definitely in the soundtrack of my own life. I also thought of his kids. I’m a veteran, and there’s been times where I wasn’t sure I’d make it home to see my children. It’s upsetting that they have to grow up without someone so unique to call ‘Dad’.
Poor dude had some serious demons. Wherever he is, I hope he has peace.
RIP Chris.
(P.S. if I don’t get to own a Gibson Chris Cornell signature model in olive drab with a bigsby… then there isn’t a God. Because I deserve it, and I’ll never be able to afford it.)
????
He didn’t unalive himself…
RIP Chris
I only think of the pain chris left he’s family and friends in ! My brother took his life and after seeing my mother break to peaces along with his wife and sons I believe thats a bad way to leave this world !
Wow. I saw this when it first came out. It was so exciting. It’s kind of hard to watch now. But I’m super glad they did it. Such an amazing band ????????????
????
I miss Chris Cornell every day! Glad that the other guys are still around
Badmotorfinger and Superunknown were two of the absolute best albums from that era and, dare I say, from all-time, especially if you narrow the field to rock. Very high caliber of songs from start to finish.
:51 I played the tennis racket for 2 years to get into the band. enjoyed it all
I love soundgarden
Insert chicken vocal practice here…see Michael beinhorns take on a day of Chris being silly but truthfully in chris head w/o having to explain his self it was all vocal form..yeap now you know..happy practicing
Super fantastic! ????
What a great fucking band, period !!!
And this year it was the 30th anniversary of Superunknown, and 7 years since Chris left us… man, time surely flies
I want that book of guitar chords that Ben Shepherd is talking about
A massively overrated band, but at least, together with Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam, it helps normal people identify the emotionally stunted and depressive individuals so the rest of us can avoid them????
SO hard to watch but glad i did
