  • BTS were already the biggest music group from Korea and seo taiji is the father of kpop itself and started the industry in the first place, so this was a collab between the one who started it and the ones who are currently leading it, it’s just an iconic collab, he didn’t start in particular bts he started Kpop itself. BTS were already the biggest by that point lol. Btw this entire concert had BTS performing with him on all kinds of song, it wasn’t just classroom idea. That’s why it’s so iconic.

I don’t think Blackpink would fit this as they don’t have the stage presence to handle it, and dreamcatcher aren’t really even known enough in Korea or in kpop to do that, they are quite underrated (which is a shame cuz they are actually really good lmao, and deserves big success, but the industry is ruthless and they didn’t get so lucky… they are so niche lol even among kpop fans I don’t know a lot of people who Stan them, love them tho, deserved better)

  • Seo Taiji personally handed the torch to BTS because they align with the artistic and social values he represented for his generation. BTS' debut music was basically The Wall but in Korean, criticizing the toxic aspects of their culture. This joint concert was his way to tell South Korea who his successors are. He talked about them in interviews, too.

Seo Taiji is called the "father of k-pop" now but really, he's more the father of modern Korean counterculture music that's popular with young people.

"K-pop" is an American term that wasn't used in Korea until recently. If we're being exact, K-pop refers to idol music and that's not really the lane Seo Taiji represented. Hence, he didn't align himself with any particular idol group until BTS.

The idol industry has evolved but it's still very shallow and largely about companies micromanaging groups. That's where BTS stood out since their agency was too poor and irrelevant to be part of the machine. The guys were allowed to write honest, critical lyrics and explore their own styles.

Seo Taiji saw himself in them and same goes for another Korean icon, Drunken Tiger who's basically the godfather of hip hop in Korea. Tiger was so impressed by BTS that he actually changed his negative views of idols. Then there's Epik High, who would be the millennial generation icons of hip hop being close friends with BTS & SHINHWA, the oldest active Korean idol group who started in the 90s, being BTS' role models. Most icons of Korean music respect and are proud of BTS for staying true to authenticity in their art.

As a side note, BTS made the remake to COME BACK HOME by Seo Taiji, not this song.

    Oh, and it's pronounced so-teh-jeeh, not see-oh.

  • Seo Taiji is the father of kpop. He started this kind of music in the early 90s. His music has always been all about meaningful messages that unfortunately got lost when korean entertainment companies and the government discovered that kpop can make them money. So from the time Seo Taiji and Boys disbanded until 2010s, kpop music become very commercialized and quite shallow with the focus on looks and popularity, not on music. Then BTS debuted whose whole existence is based on the fact that they want to block stereotypes and crticisms. Their music and lyrics talk about who they are, the expectations of society and their personal experiences, things that Seo Taiji talked about in his music. So in 2017, in this concert for his 25th anniversary, Seo Taiji invited BTS to the stage. They weren’t just guests on the show, they did almost half of the show with him. In an interview, he told BTS that this is their generation now and quite literally passed the baton to them. The BTS members call him “Appa” or Dad. You can watch DKDKTV’s History of Kpop in 20 mins to get a clearer picture.
