  • Peavy decade is Josh Homme’s secret QOTSA guitar/bass sound. They make a guitar pedal version so you can get that badass sound w/o breaking the bank. I wish I would have picked one up when they were dirt cheap. It’s really a killer bass amp sound

  • I had a Pevey practice amp back in the early 1990s and it sounded fantastic. Ive gone through 3 amps in the past 2 years trying to find a sound that is even close to that old pevey.

  • One that works.
I found a twenty dollar Crate on eBay to get my daughter going.
Plus it’s more satisfying when you get to graduate up to something better

  • You can mic some of the inexpensive amps nowadays and layer recordings, even use EQ to create a huge sound!

  • Just don't get a combo unless you're going for literally the cheapest stuff. You can buy decent little heads cheap now, small cabs are also cheap. You'll get way more variety mix and matching amps and cabs and it makes it easier to explore.

  • I once recorded through a Fender Frontman 10g, the clean channel is decent on it but still got a nice tone out of it, cost only £50. Just do a bit of research on the kind amp you after and it's application within your budget. Check it out at your local shop and just try it out, or borrow a friends or at a rehearsal studio. People don't care about the amp (apart from us musicians), but the tone you can get out of it. ????

P.s you don't have to get a tube amp, solid states are just as good.

  • Exactly right !
Never let gear dictate whether or not you should play with art or create

Art is sopposed to liberate us, not to give us complexes ( as someone who has spent years not creating because of the wirst kind of perfectionism, tho admitedly i was never into gear or brands , but i did have this sence that i needed to become vetter technically even tho,i really didnt have to for the music that i wanted to create)

    Have a good day

  • Had a Peavey Bandit for my first "real" amp (after a Heathkit I built!). sounded great and I could get it right on the edge of breaking up to do the Larry Carlton volume swells.

  • Fender Blues Junior. I’ve seen that bad boy everywhere from studios, bars and music schools.

  • I had the Peavey, Gibson, sunn, kustom, fender etc – don't worry about what you have and focus on dialing it in and finding great tones – qotsa proved the point

  • Warren knows how painful it was for parents to buy the basics for children back then.

  • Warren is right what ever is affordable….All musicians should be starting with a DAW though….It unlocks the entire playing feild of musical creation

  • Did you have one of those horrendous silvery Fender Champion transistor amps like the rest of us? You were about 5-10 years before us but the first time any of my friends got a valve amp, we were all stunned. “That’s how it’s supposed to sound!!!”
