In this lesson I introduce the concept of scales and modes and explain their function in improvisation. I always try to make my lessons as simple as possible for beginners to understand without overwhelming them with theory. I understand that not everyone wants to be a professional player and most people just want to play as a hobby and want to know enough to be able to have fun playing and not get frustrated. Holy hot damn I think I get it now
I did not read the comments before I watched this and I agree with everyone. The key difference between this video and all the others about modes is that he explicitly says the modes are all the same notes. I don’t know why that never clicked. Every other video about the modes is someone who thinks they’re dumbing it down, but they’re being too “musiciany.” That’s the best way I can explain this video. Watch it.
I know this is an old video, but it is the best one I've found on scales. Finally, I understand how all of these scales work. This video made it all click, into place. Thank you!

You just made my understand why there are modes and how to use them. People talk and talk about the modes but I've never seen someone use them all and demonstrate them in a song. Thank you for this video. That was a major help.
