Tremendous information
Hey man, thank you for the great advice! I just picked steel back up after a 13 year break and am enjoying it tremendously.
I appreciate all your advice and instructions. All solid information critical to a pedal steel player. Thanks Gary
Thank you. Just got my first lap steel today. Appreciate so much your tips.
I am 28 and have decided to learn the pedal steel after about 12 years of playing acoustic guitar. I have always wanted too but didn't realize there were more affordable options for pedal steel guitars as opposed to the 3 to 5 thousand dollar ones which are out of my budget range for a beginner instrument. Your videos give me motivation and the hope of actually learning such a often misunderstood instrument that is often labeled "too hard to learn".
Thanks!
This was SO helpful, thank you!!
So glad I found you channel… Great advice… Thank you…
nice vid!
I’d say its tied with Uilleann Pipes for most beautiful sounding instrument in my opinion.
Very informative. Thanks a lot for the video!
Thanks, handy tips ❤
I wasn't sure about you since I've not ever heard of you… Until you unplug the volume petal then I said this guy is okay. Even if you can't play that was a really cool move and excellent advice.. Everybody on the internet wants to be a teacher even though they're not really qualified.. You are qualified just on that alone..
Your 10 tips could be seen as a helpful list for life in general. As a former long time working musician (30+ years) I particularly appreciate #10. Really enjoyed your presentation. Thanks.
What kind of effect pedals do you use? Delay or reverb.
What is tempered tuning?
I'm new to the lap steel. Hope this isn't a silly question. A standard tuning on a guitar is obviously EADGBE. And you could have your lap steel tuned to DGDGBE. are the strings tuned to the same octave or frequency like A440? Because when I try to tune my lap steel, the strings are not very stable in their tuning. Am I tuning it to the wrong frequency. Below A44O. Not sure how to phrase the question. Any advice on this would be appreciated.
"It's always better to play clean, than fast and sloppy." SIR, I FEEL ATTACKED
Well done! Thank you. I'm a long time mediocre guitar player and, since everyone plays guitar, am switching to lap steel at the age of 72.
Bow string wax is a great idea I never thought of.
I don't have a pedal steel but love the instrument so I'm watching videos on how to play. Tip 10 was golden advice for people who play any instrument.
I used this techniques in video when I started playing several years back. Great advice!!
You should learn to tune by ear also.
Greetings from England
Total newbie – so really helpful advice, It's like talking to a mate in the bar, Thanks.
I guess I've got to choose a tuning and go for it.
On Tip #7 regarding Recording Yourself, what equipment were you using ? Both for playing of the basic track (without steel), and then you quickly played back Your steel with the track. Plus, all Good Tips on this video

I play guitar, don’t even own a steel guitar and this is fantastic advice for playing guitar too, man.
Thanks for the video.
Thank you for the useful tips. I found the last one most helpful. A lot of times people are discouraged and quit because they aren't somebody. I do this for myself now, and maybe others as I improve.
