I’ve played a ton of guitars. I guess I’m weird because Alvarez Yari and Taylor Builders Editions are my favorites. I’ve tried most on this list and they are great guitars but I never was inclined to buy any of them. The Yari however was an instant buy. Same with my 524builders edition. I was smiling from first strum. hAll my friends are drawn to the vintage sound. Maybe if I was a better player I could identify the qualities others love. I don’t know. Actually the last guitar that made say wow was a Gibson J45. I get it I’m running against the grain but I buy what I like and keep it. My kids can worry about resale.
Is it time for an update, perhaps informed by your trip to Chicago?

It's a shame their is a lot of good struggling artist out their they would have sale a kidney to even think about owning one of these guitars.
They only know what they have seen. Manuel Patterson beats most all of them.
I'm so glad to have run across and purchased a 2007 Proulx OM/D guitar a few years ago. It's inspired me like no other guitar I've ever owned, and I've owned some pretty fine acoustic guitars! I'd put it up against all that you compared today! Great episode !!
Bolt on necks like Boucher and Collings just don’t produce the tone that set necks do. You can compensated by getting things like bigger bodies and 12 fret joints, and softer top woods … but still. It’s a disadvantage
Santa Cruz are absolutely NOT better than Martin Authentics. I’ve played many of each.

My Thompson is head and shoulders over my PreWar, Collings, Santa Cruz, Bourgeios, D42, Dove and Hummingbird and the PreWar is 2nd.
honestly surprised moar guitars didn’t make the cut. played one of their builds last year—super stripped down, hand-carved neck, and it rang like a piano. i get they’re more under-the-radar but if you know, you know.
Mcpherson guitars are my favorite. Glad they made your list.
