Ace Frehley was the reason I started playing guitar.
This is the video I’ve been searching for. Thank you!
15:10
That's going from the A pentatonic minor to the relative C pentatonic major – it would've been helpful if you explained it that way.
Ace may not be the most technical lesd guitarist, but his licks and solos are cool af.
I gave ace his first guitar.
I gave him all kinds of lessons and songs. Id say he's done very well with them
You inspired me to make my first real you rube video. I did it on playing like Ace too, but focused more on his over all playing style, rhythm playing and riff writing. Let me know what you think Mike. The video is just shot from my phone, but I thought the topic would accommodate what you did well. You did a great job with his lead work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEqUK5f1P9E Feedback is welcome. I'll probably do a part 2
The A to C bend sounds so good. Why, one might ask, does it sound so magical? "I can't tell you why…"
Great job ⚡️
Not freeley, Frehley?
Fantastic lesson my friend ❤
You play Ace's riffs great !
Wow, you are an absolutely incredible guitar player. Great techniques, great sound. Nice job!!!!
“I don’t really know what to call some of this stuff.” That was great.
Ace influenced thousands of people to take up playing guitar, this alone makes him one of the most significant figures in 20th century music. his solos were melodic, they always fit the song, and you could whistle or hum them. he is namechecked by a plethora of contemporary guitarists as an influence and inspiration, but still in general underappreciated for his contributions. he recently said "If I'd known I was going to influence thousands of guitarists I would have practiced more!" lol. but if he had been flashier he might not have been as interesting. J. Mascis of Dinosaur JR said Ace has a tremolo like no one else. and he's no slouch!
Is that the tobacco sunburst.
I hear some Chuck Berry licks there. Take care ????✌️????????. Yes ive always like Ace Frehley'
❤Ace Frehley❤
"Ace Frehley' s style is original and unique''
Ace is from that Chuck Berry 50's 60's school of rock and roll playing. He's awesome cause he took those influences and created his own style. He is a great player to draw those classic licks from that you can use in practically any rock song and sound authentic. He is definitely a feel player and he goes effortlessly from lick to lick and is a hell of a Live player. He had the look and the moves for playing Live with Kiss. I went to the 2000ish reunion tour and I couldn't take my eyes off Ace with those cool stage moves. Smoking guitar and everything and he sounded great. That was before all the backing tracks BS.
That was awesome joke at the early part of the video!????????
Six years after you posted this, but man have I destroyed a ton of picks playing like Ace! And a couple of weeks away from new Ace too! So looking forward to getting 10,000 Volts!
Didn't know he had any…
9:50 "That'll lead to other licks, of course. They always do."
That off handed comment is the most succinct description of Ace's style that we'll ever hear. Great video, and nice work copping Ace's feel.
These are gold! Thanks Mike
I loved Ace and he was one of my first inspirations. But he is also one of these odd cases where his best playing was early in his career and he never grew as a musician.
Gary Richrath and Ace are my biggest influences from the old guard
Frehleyizhere27
Scotty Moore (early Elvis guitarist) and Chuck Berry simultaneously then Ace brought my guitar playing up 12 levels.
I was mesmerized by Ace's talent
Thanks for showing Ace like this. I feel he doesn't get the respect he deserves because he was in KISS. That's a shame. He is a major influence still to me as well. KISS list a lot when he left. That is why they offered him more money than Peter in 96 for the reunion. They were ready to do it with just Ace coming back only. Again thanks for this.
His solos may be simple, and many of his "tricks" may not be technically challenging, but every one of his solos is memorable, distinctive and original. Except, of course the run that he plays on "She" that he lifted from the Door's "Peace Frog." You know an Ace solo when you hear it.
Hi Mike… that first lick you play in the "motifs" section, the chuck berry thing, could you do a short lesson on playing that lick in time? I can play it, but when I try to add it to my own solo I mess up the timing.
I know it's an old video . But does anyone know what songs these examples are from .?
Another kid who grew up with Kiss, playing air guitar (or broomstick, or golf club) Ace has a ton of great riffs and solos. Underrated! Great video, was fun to watch.
I hate kiss soo much and I've tried to get into them.
Seeing its you il give it a watch though, should be intresting.
This was excellent! ????
For me Ace is the best guitar player and my favourite guitar is he’s guitar because it’s just great
4:33 Joe Walsh’s(James Gang) Funk 49 to the TEE!
Mike, Not only do you give kicks ass lessons, but you seem to be a really cool guy. I hope everything is going good for you. Thanks for all your time and effort teaching these.
Peace.. Joe
7:30 I have tried this a lot instead of two hands tapping.
Ace Frehley is the kind of guitarist, who makes you want to play the guitar. He has this cool sounding riffs and solos, that some kind of invite you in.
Nice ! Thanks …
