These aren’t your dad’s major scale patterns, so get ready for things to be kicked up a notch!
In this major scales guitar lesson we’re going to explore 3 hefty Major guitar scales that each begin on just one fret. Then we’re going to turn them into one heck of a major scales guitar workout!
There are multiple advantages to adding these exercises to your daily practice routine…
The biggest one is that you will get multiple patterns of the exact same notes under your fingers, which will be essential in allowing you to visualize patterns and shapes on the fretboard.
You’ll also be able to walk your fretting fingers across all of the strings in different ways. Though each major scales pattern has the exact same notes, they’re each laid out differently. This will get your hands more familiar and fluent with how notes can be arranged on the fretboard.
And that’s just your fretting hand! You can also use this exercise to sharpen your alternate and economy picking!
This major scales guitar lesson will walk you through each pattern, one at a time, and you’ll see how each major scales pattern has a unique order of how your fingers play them. So every finger will build strength and speed equally in this exercise.
Of course it wouldn’t be a proper guitar workout without using a metronome! I’ll show you how to find the right bpm as a starting point and show you your options when practicing to a certain bpm.
Remember how I said we can find each major scales guitar pattern by using one fret? I’ll also show you how to use that idea and move it up the fretboard for maximum coverage.

This is an exercise to take with you from now on. It’s a fantastic way to get your fingers warmed up, while also building dexterity, speed, and timing as you practice with a metronome. Next thing you know you’ll be running through this exercise while sitting backstage getting ready to rock the stage and melt some faces 😉
Rock On!

Will try this exercise!
Thanky
Very good young man
Thanks Eddie
Now I know where I'm coming from, where I'm at, and where I'm going. The visuals and audio took care of all that. Thank you.
Thank you. Now, in my opinion, to love to play the guitar is to put the heart, mind, soul, and body together. The first three, I think, always made me pick up my guitar, bidding for the last to fulfil. Until these exercises, I did not learn and I did not make progress. Now I do them every time I pick up the guitar. Thanks.
Wow…good one ????
Is this A major
Thanks Eddie! you are the Dragon Slayer of barre chords! Thank's for the extra help with the Rhythm and Lead Guitar Course. This is what's been holding me back for years.
I want to learn guitar, but choosing a reputable source is challenging. I went to get the "free" practice session worksheet from this lesson, was instructed to watch a video during my "20 minute wait," and still no practice session worksheet. How is someone supposed to trust sending you money for lessons when you don't fulfill what you say you are going to give for free?
Thanks Eddie always a good lesson. I started my first practice sessions with the C major scale and just moved it around. This lesson helps take it up a notch and increases the notes (3 note patterns). I'll add this to the warm up.
Great lesson Eddie…thanks, I'm looking forward to doing it. A question – off the wall sort of – how have you gained control of your pinky finger? You play as if you have 4 fingers (haha), I have 3 fingers and a floppy fish (my little finger) that goes wherever it wants – except where I want it to. Any excercises to help fix that? Thank you and keep up the great lessons. Mike
This is very helpful for me who wants to level up their guitar playing. Very good variations and exercises. Thank you for this! ????
Hi Eddie, good exercise and challenge to me. It is hard to get crystal clear tone per pick, especially when I has overdrive kind of effect turn on that enlarges even very small noise.
Well Presented Lesson! Also how to use the Metronome Was Great!!
I’m at work right now so I took a screenshot of the pattern and I’ll give it a go this evening, thanks! This looks like a great exercise man ????
Another quality lesson Eddie, thanks again. Are you going to explain the major scale patterns a little more?
thank u .
Are these scale patterns in a certain key?
Great exercise, great tutoring as usual. Had me confused initially with the diagrams being upside down (compared to what I'm used to). PDF's normal though so all's good.
????????♀️????
I can see this being a valuable exercise.
Eddie, you're always great!
Nice work, Eddie! Very helpful.
