And then there is a point further on the scheme, and that is when you start impressing people with your own compositions, ether they are really hard to play or not, "wait, did you actuallymade this? Dam…"
bruh these jimi Hendrix fanboy won't shut up
im almost at the some people tier
I THINK WHEN YOU WRITE A GOOD PIECE OF MUSIC ON THE INSTRUMENT YOU ARE IMPRESSIVE, I LITERALLY HATE NOTHING MORE AS A PLAYER PEOPLE WHO JUST KNOW COVERS OR BLUES LICKS. BLUES LICKS TO ME ARE JUST NOTHING SPECIAL AT ALL AT THIS POINT AND EVERYBODY ON YOUTUBE WHO DEMOS GEAR JUST PLAYS SOME FORM OF CRAPPY BLUES OR GAINED UP BLUES ROCK. THERE ARE A FEW EXCEPTIONS BUT ONCE YOU WRITE MUSIC AND DEVELOP A SOUND OF YOUR OWN THEN YOU ARE TRULY IMPRESSIVE. WHILE I WAS TEACHING MYSELF TO PLAY I WOULD RUN ACROSS PEOPLE WHO WOULD TAKE MY GUITAR AND PLAY A SPOT ON VERSION OF SOMEONE ELSES SONG BUT AS SOON AS I WANTED THEM TO JAM AN ORIGINAL SONG THEY JUST COULDN'T DO IT AND NOT SOUND 99 PERSENT LIKE THE SONGS THEY COULD COVER..JMHO…LEARN TO PLAY WITHOUT EVER LEARNING A COVER AND YOU WILL ACHIEVE I THINK ALOT MORE TO BE PROUD OF THEN IF YOU JUST LEARN TO PLAY LIKE SOMEONE ELSE. IVE WRITTEN OVER 100 SONGS AND I TO THIS DAY KNOW ZERO COVERS.
Play for yo self
Someone like Elliott Smith sits right at the top of that curve for me. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say he's an example of high skill directly translating to sounding good while still accessible to normal ears. Obviously he could play fast but I've never heard someone who can make just chords sound so good and impressive without ripping a solo. He was like the anti-Polyphia
This video could have "playing god-polyphia" as a possible title because it looks really hard and impressive, but if you just play it in a lower replay speed, a guitars would be able to notice that is actually pretty easy. Some songs are considered impressive only because of their crazy speed, but, as I said before, there're many songs like "playing god" that are actually easy to play, those songs just requires some practice to play them fast.
said it before and ill say it again, technical for the sake of technical only feeds your own ego to put other people down because these insane new gen guitar players are like "oh yeah ill show you that" (unleashes hell on earth and expect you too follow along) then they get offended that your shit and cant follow them. most of the new style guitar players have no soul in their sound because its all "well this works because this note is apart of X and that is a sub of Y and that is a harmonic of Z and that harmonic is apart of this scale from 2000 years ago that was played once on a lute by the kings jester"
Shoutout to all the supportive moms out there ✌️
Huh… Weirdly similar to the curve of muscle building at the gym then…
dude what are you smoking
This is a complete lie
A real man can realize whether he plays guitar, or plays songs on guitar.
This basically applies to all things, after a certain level of skill people will actually think you're worse than someone who's mediocre because they can't even grasp what you are doing and goes against the beginner shit they were taught.
I think you discouraged me from playing guitar anymore. lol
I find this to be a really bizarre way to think about music
You forgot to mention when you just master one song only for a year or so, and you play beautifully to the point you could be their cover, but when they ask you to play anything else you give a yellow smile and tell you don't know this one XD
To be honest, I don't care if people can do what I can't do. I just play guitar for myself lol.
Learn to make your instrument sing as if it had a voice . Also try and get into a band lol if you want praise it won't be coming from friends and family .
Good guitar isn't impressive to people who don't know guitar
The real lesson of this is, when you want to be good at guitar…. learn how to sing 😛
It is
It's so true. 100% of a mindfuck.
Basically why Black/Death metal sucks
If you can't play like Tim Henson, and I definitely can't, you have to find a better way to cope than saying "UHM TECHNICAL = SOULLESS". Tons of non-musicians like his shit
