Saturating the mids to highs of a bass sound allows some mid/high frequency of bass to come through on phone and laptops giving a sort of pseudobass, a music production secret used quite heavily in hip hop, R&B and pop music. But doing this does distract from the depth of the bass sound, sometimes deeper bass sounds smoother and cleaner and saturating the mids/highs can takes away from that at the cost of just satisfying the phone/laptop user base while taking musicality away from listeners with decent sound systems. The trick is to find a middle ground between low bass and saturated mids/highs so that your in the best of both worlds. This video is actually a good example itself, I much preferred the depth and smoothness of the first bass used rather than the later saturated bass, proving that alterations just to please a certain listener base is not always best. Also it is worthwhile mentioning that Fabfilter Saturn 2 is just a multiband distortion and saturation plug in, it is not a guitar amp. If you want to try a proper guitar amp the one i like most on basses is MASERATI GTI by waves + tony mazerati (on clean setting). It adds a lot of punch and is very helpful on psytrance/prog basslines, this was a tip found and shared by necmi @idirty records.
Any recommendations for a free alternative to Saturn 2? It do be a couple of dollars but I really like what it can do and quite a few people recommend it in the videos i watch <3 <3
