Robin Finck and Alessandro Cortini of Nine Inch Nails detail their high-tech rigs that include a formidable army of custom axes, sophisticated wireless MIDI and digital presets paired with analog effects, all streamlined to help them create intricate, scorching industrial rock soundscapes.
Reverend guitars have become Robin Finck’s go-to 6-strings in the past year. This wine red flame-maple Sensei has Joe Naylor Railhammer pickups, a bass contour for molding pickup voice, and a stoptail bridge.
Robin Finck’s favorite Reverend model is the Charger with Humcutter pickups, a bass contour, and stoptail bridge. This is Finck’s No. 1 personal guitar, which he plays in the hotel, dressing room, and on the bus. He has a gray version at home.
Alessandro Cortini has played synthesizers with NIN in the past, but on this tour he’s playing both guitar and bass. Cortini plays in two tunings during the current NIN set: standard and drop D. His main bass in standard is a custom Telemaster bass, which is the first one Fender has ever built. It has Jazz and Precision pickups and a unique blue relic finish.

Jesus. Is he having a stroke? Dude can't answer a basic question. What's wrong with him.
lol. 18:18 Backing away slowly…
The slide talk was my favorite. "It's got a…..it's not a….plop"
Robin Finck seems like he's REALLY F*CKIN" HIGH during this interview! He can barely form a sentence, he's got a vacant look in his eyes and he can't even answer questions he really should be able to remember the answers to.
Just praying for new Rig Rundown for the "Peel itBack" tour. Fingers crossed.
This seems like an awkward first date.
The interviewer is so lame and unenthusiastic.
Most awkward RigRundown in history
One of the greatest guitarist and instrumentalists around… it is amazing how he is soooooooooooo underrated worldwide;.
Holy shit this guy is SO high
The rig rundown! Isn’t that what you wanted!? ????
I thought Robin was great and it’s awesome when the artist makes an appearance and not just the tech! Awkward maybe, he’s a true artist…but also very kind and hospitable…
Damn it's still awkward, This isn't just on her, Robin is beyond awkward here and is giving her less than nothing, there is just no good energy form either of them. The chat with Alessandro seems fine though.
arguably the most anticipated rig rundown ever is ruined by a terrible interviewer. Please Premier Guitar, please do a remake while they are on tour. Seriously, "what do you like about Sustainiac"? Is this the question you would ask NIN if you could?
30:12 lap steel tone bar bruh
12:42 : Unique string gauges for the Parker tuned DDDDDD: I'm thinking .052 or .056 for the low E string followed by three .030 gauge strings and finally two .011 gauge. My assumption.
Everybody's on the awkwardness of the interview but nobody's talking about my man's drip. Slaying while murdered out. And the shoe game is impeccable.
This has got to be the most awkward rig rundown I ever seen. I feel bad for the interviewer.
????dude is in the zone!
Interesting fact about Chris Whitemeyer is that he also teched for Robin’s former Guns ‘N’ Roses bandmate DJ Ashba. DJ uses the same Les Paul wiring as Robin.
I thought the Broken tones were Marshall JMP-1, not a metal zone?
I've always wondered if Robin would prefer to do interviews and answer questions via written correspondence, he seems like the kind of dude who is not only a bit shy/reserved, but one who over-thinks questions in the moment, like me.
We kind of expect the person asking the question to ask a direct and specific question with a straightforward answer, and when they don't, and let us lead the conversation, we end up rambling.
It's a lot easier for me to coherently communicate via text because I can organize my thoughts without the other person expecting an immediate answer, I wonder if Robin is the same.
The rig run down, isn't that what you wanted?!
The B:ASSMASTER was easier to get through import than STINGER.
..for some reason.
It's usually the awkward soft spoken dudes that for some reason are the most interesting personalities and Finck is no exception.
If you suffer from insomnia, this interview will help.
35:18 …"yesss thanks lord.." ????
The Rig Rundown, isn't that really what you wanted?
Where's John 'awesome' Bohlinger when you need him…
This is pretty much to be expected in any interview with Robin. He just isn't a very talkative guy and this is actually pretty standard fare for an interview with him.
I love NIN but dude was baked!
I dont know why I felt like watching spinal tab and the explanation of the amp
what do u like about the sustainiac? It sustains the notes! DUH!
34:15 this scene gets me every time..
''you wanna see the slide?'' 😀
