  • Per, thanks for taking the time to show us this. I made a Cubase template while following along and using the stock Cubase phaser. I made a second version by disabling the phaser and turning on the Chorus pedal in the Plini VST on tracks 2 and 3 and setting the Rate and Depth knobs differently on each track. Not quite the same as your version, but still neat sounding.

  • Sounds great. Are all three tracks being sent to the reverb and delay or just the original? Also is the reverb and delay in series or parallel?

  • Hello! Thank you for making this video…I am also a Plini Archetype user! Question….why did you use the reverb on a bus instead of just using the reverb in the plan plug in?

  • I think I saw John Petrucci talk about something similar, but instead of phasing 2 L+R tracks to add to the mono track, he just splits his mono signal into two separate L and R channels, with one of them just ever so slightly displaced (3ms i think)

But i think I like this way better, coz I can label the mono track "big pp" and the phased tracks "ball L" and "ball R"

  • that is some incredibly sexy tone. i really, really like the idea of hard panning the phasing tracks… gonna play with this idea for a while, thank you!

  • Great video! Is there a particular reason why you prefer to set the mix to 100% and adjust the output volume instead of just adjusting the mix?

  • Thanks for sharing Per, some super tips here I'm going to start messing around with myself. Incredible tone!

  • Is anybody going to address that the guitar was clipping at the input of the plugin?? Does that not matter? I’ve always pulled that down to keep it from clipping. ????????

  • Hey Per, this is super useful, appreciate it! I always wondered about a certain synthetic/non-guitaristic quality of your sound (maybe a touch of a bowed string instrument), and this was enlightening.

Do you still use .009 strings, or have you gone up in gauge (.0095 or .010)?

  • Your videos are always interesting an informative Per. But I would really like to thank you so much for this careful and detailed talk through.
I followed along in Cubase, other than the phaser using the same plug-ins. It sounded different, but in the same general area. Clearly it illogical to even aspire to your jaw dropping technique, but it will be fun to work this nonetheless.

Thank you for a first rate video!
