Rig Rundown – Guthrie Trapp
Article and photos: http://bit.ly/GuthrieTrappRR
Premier Guitar dropped in to Guthrie Trapp’s Nashville studio between sessions and checked out Trapp’s no-nonsense rig, which includes blackface amps, a vintage 335 and an axe carved out of wood from a compost pile.
Although Trapp owns other guitars, he basically gets it all done with two very different axes. His No. 1 is his Floyd Cassista T-style with an ancient redwood body and a maple neck.
When Trapp wants to change it up he goes with his stock 1969 Gibson ES-335 w/ trapeze tailpiece. Both guitars are strung with D’Addario NYXL .010–.046 strings.

A redwood body?
I guess I view pedal boards in kind of a similar, yet militaristic way.
When you've been blessed to have found your personal 'FAVORITE' pedals, they morph into YOUR SOUND. They are the CORE because they've ALL been VETTED from HOURS spent wringing nearly everything you THINK you can out of them. You know them. You KNOW you can DEPEND on them. They're always on call.
However, it's a never ending mission. A mission you EMBRACE when GLADLY UNDERTAKEN.
GOTTA keep the CORE as few as possible, mobile and in great condition with maintenance.
Then search for recruits. New warroirs to slip into the rotation.
The recruits SERVE and COMPLIMENT the CORE and yet meld seamlessly into the CORE when deployed.
Wanna hear some crap?
Slash is on the 100 greatest players of all time.
Guthrie isn’t even mentioned. Guthrie smokes most players on the planet.
Also Joe Robinson isn’t either.
I almost forgot about dark haired Jon Bolinger. He’s the best at these rig rundowns.
That EP Boost has switched trim pots inside so play around with those
A Lazy Rig
This dude is something else… a master at combining blues with jazz… amazing player..
Put a Trainwreck Type 2 PPIMV in a '65 twin with those Jensen C12N (orignals) and you can get any Fender tone at any volume.
Too cool when he said " mexi-tele pickups " I love mexi-tele's they play great and sound good too .
I dig that he keeps the RC Booster on all the time. Do you think he does the same when he uses the EP Booster? Where would that pedal be placed in the signal chain? ????
Solo guitar is the best ' Guthrie trapp ????????☝☝☝☝☝
Mr. Trapp and James Burton are my two favorite players.
Thoroughly enjoyable????
I had that exact same shirt as Guthrie. think I got it at target.
I had that exact version of his Vibrolux Reverb amp and it was stolen from me. 🙁 Many years ago.
The pedal board needs to be fluid; change them out as songs change with your repertoire
Guthrie Trapp is the real deal. This is Danny Gatton, Mark Knopfler, and Django rolled into one player.
Look no gray hairs. Lol
So in 2020 its go big and go home!
I absolutely love Guthries personality and playing. A wonderful example a player and a gent.
I like how Guthrie does'nt know much about the tubes and speakers. He just knows how to play.
Such a cool guy! Please do another installment with him where he plays more!
GT is a world class guitar player with the humility of a saint. Such a great player but even a greater dude.
Dont just show us the board play and demonstrate the pedals. What a tease.
Absolutely hooked
Guthrie is the kind of guy you could tour the world with and still love the guy afterwards.
Awesome video from an awesome guitar player! Been a fan of your channel for a while but have just recently discovered Guthrie Trapp. I love his playing & his attitude. Thanks!
Nice job
He looks (exactly) like "Jake" from Evil Dead II.
0:15 ???? Huge red X
You just cost me… now I gotta get to my local guitar store and get me a Telecaster!
18:07.. you're welcome
Nice tips from guthrie trapp. Exercise on your guitar first
Guthrie is so humble .. but i wish he would have played thru each pedal so we could hear it !
One of the best guitar players out there! Highly recommend both of his solo albums!
Anyone know fretwire (looks big), fretboard radius, string gauge, or string brand for Guthrie's tele?
Is Guthrie Ambedextrous ?
I've seen him play right and left ,I swear ………..
Time is running…..hurry up!

A country picker who doesn't use compression. Seriously, that's rare!
"Sounds killer"
This cats only got a thousand subscribes. WTH? He's the best kept secret on YouTube. Awesome versatile guitarist
…Excellent musicianship and demonstrations…what is that voicing (tab) at 6:31? It's brilliant!
09:32 "If you want a Twin buy a Twin." — Although there's truth to that, it's also easy to say if you don't have to schlepp it yourself and you play arena's. 😀
See Guthrie live if you can. Stupendous!
So Guthrie plays practically with a Mexican Fender and a few some of them accesible pedals in mono without breaking his head in adjustment…epic!! Tone in his own Hands!!! My New HERO!!!
i've learned so much from these videos, i really how Guthrie Trapp is able to condense so much and make it simple
Hey, when you run out of talent, pedals are more fun 🙂
first time i ever saw/heard about this guy, he's a freeking music genius , very cool
