  • If you collect pedals you know how expensive and in demand discontinued Boss pedals can be. It's worth the price just to have the PN-2, the DF-2 and the BF-2 for the price of one of the more expensive new Boss pedals. I think this is what they were going for. They were trying to do something for hardcore Boss pedal fans and they got nothing but grief for it. I just ordered one and if these 16 effects are all the effects they ever release for it I would be satisfied.

  • It seems most people haven’t yet grasped the real issue with digital machines in general, not just this Boss unit. The problem isn’t about sound quality, flexibility, power or convenience. The real question is: how independent is the machine from third-party systems outside my control?

If the company stops supporting it, or change policy, or if the external devices it relies on for basic operations (like a computer) become obsolete, will I still be able to use my device fully? Can I still load the plugins that I purchased? Some machines remain fully operable on their own, even digital ones, even if the manufacturer disappears.

I think this is what we should really care about. What do you think?

  • I had been waiting and waiting for your take on this because I know you actually use your brain (unless you’re not updating the pedal to unlock the other 8 effects LOL). I own one and I love it, it’s exactly what I needed, and I knew you would approach this from a factual standpoint instead of regurgitating other YouTubers POVs. Thank you for fighting the misinformation!!

  • The licence is to the pedal, not your phone. You still have your account no matter which phone or tablet you use.

  • This is the dumbest review attempt on the PX-1 I‘ve seen so far. You‘re not only unprepared, but you have obviously not even tried to understand why musicians are so critical about the concept. I‘m sure you can do better. So do it and don‘t try to help Sweetwater sell a pedal that is hard to sell, because hard working musicians can‘t support an ill fated concept that asks for a lot of money for something they can‘t actually use much in practise. Put that thing on a pedal board, add a footswitch and show what it can do in a band or recording context. Then compare it to other much more versatile and cheaper solutions that come without the need to sign up to a greedy company that forgot what it stands for. Then we‘re talkin‘.

  • it is the perfect "joker" pedal. i use the app to switch fx between songs (BT or usb cable from phone). It works without I internet so there is no "end of live". wished it has full midi.

  • I never thought that this was a subscription, I realize it's DLC. The problem that I have with this thing is the fact that there are other units out there that cost the same amount of money or less and those units include all of the effects at no additional charge. another problem that I have, as of right now that thing cost $250 and only has 16 effects available, so even if they were included in the purchase price that's a steep price to pay when you can pick up other units that have over 100 effects. i'm sorry but at this price point the Line 6 H,X1 absolutely destroys this thing. I think one of the largest benefits of having something like the HX1 is the ability to explore things that you may have never tried before and find ways to be more creative, charging $10 per download and not having a extensive library to even download from currently is a dealbreaker for me. if you really want to get honest about it, you're not gonna see these things on touring musicians or session guitar players pedalboards, the majority of people that will purchase one of these are going to be bedroom players and the occasional amateur guitar player that does a gig on the weekend here and there. even if Boss were to make 100+ effect, who in the right mind is going to spend $250 on this and then an additional $1000+ on DLC? Hmmm $1250+ and this Boss money hole or $250 for a HX1 or $650 on a Hx Effects or Fractal VP4? not a hard decision to make in my opinion. no one can use the excuse that Boss effects are somehow superior to any other company out there when most of those companies are just copies of Boss style effects any damn way. any decent effects that they have made I can name one that is just as good or better by another company lol. Nothing unique. the only pedals that they make that I'm even interested in is the TU3 tuner and the EQ200 equalizer. the logic behind this thing escapes me.

  • Just goes to show you how completely stupid people are….. one guy started this crazy notion that you had to have a subscription and all this other crap and people just went full retard. Expected this from the general population but not musicians, but then again, most of the people who spend their time bitching about product releases, are actually posers

  • i think the point you're missing and the point that is getting most people on the fench with this pedal is, you say when you buy a pedal for the app you own it, and yes that is kinda true, if you take a full multi-effects pedal that has everything on, you will always nomatter how many years you put in the the drawer have everything, but the problem with this pedal is that when Boss one day desides to not devolop on the app anymore and this could be in a week or 10 years we don't know, but you will still have spent mayeb a lot of money of pedals in the app,
the problem with the pedal only having 10 internal save spote for pedals is, that when Boss desides to stop working on the app, you will pritty fast be locked to that exact phone, never update it's OS, and never lose it, so you need to have a more or less bricked phone that you can only use as the controller for that exact pedal, if you ever accidently update the phoen the app might not work, or if you lose the phone, well you're out of luck, you have the pedals that was on the pedal last time you used it and nothing more,

also i really disagree with you on the price, just because you think it's cheap, doesn't make it market competitive, the other simalar pedals a stand alone with at a ton of effects and you will never have to buy extra pedals for them, so the pedal will never be more expencive than what you paid the day you walked out the door pedal in hand, where as this Boss pedal with keep becomming more and more ecpencive every time you want to add a newly released DLC, for argument let's say a line 6 hx one cost 300 and the Boss cost 250, the HX is a one time 300$, the Boss is 250 +10+10+10+10+10+10+10+10+10+10 when are you stopping?? even Boss's own GX10 is only 400 and is a much much more powerful and standalone pedal and you can chuck that sucker in the drawer with your favourite guitar and give it to your grand grand grand child and he or she will still, with no problem,s be able to just plug and play, no digging though the drawer for that dang 2025 iphone hoping the battery hasn't explodet,
so no, you may have bought it, you may have paid for it, but Boss is under absolutly no obligation to keep a database running for the next year or 10 or any obligation to keep the app updated so you can still download it and use on your new phone with the new operation system, so yea you may have bought it and given Boss your money, but you only own it for as long as you can keep the app running, after that you better hope and pray that you save your absolut favourats on the pedal, and THAT is what people are up in arm over, and trying to compair it to computers or phones is just bad, we have always know computersand phones lastet for a set set of years and then you get a new i still have my Boss Metal zone from sometime mid 90ish and many people do, same with tons of other pedals, and in many cases if you or your band has a sound, you need to keep that sound in many cases for many many years, not just untill it's not profatable for a devoloper not to support the product anymore

  • I am not a Line 6 shill, but the HX One just destroys the Plugout. What am I missing?

  • For what it is, I would rather use my Sonicake Pocket Master. Sounds amazing, and has multitudes of effects options and an app for easy adjustments. Plus it has a tuner and looper and works as a mini pedal board if you turn off the amp sims and just use the effects, all for about $100 USD.

  • Dude, it's obvious why this sucks. Even a digital multi effect processor is better than this nonsense.

  • Having used this wannabe pedal for a few days I'm seriously disappointed with it as the sound is OK but clinically digital with no heart and soul because it's a simulation not a real pedal this device is just a VST player and a point you made about ownership of a software sample is totally incorrect read the terms you never own it it a licence to use only meaning if you owned a couple of these pedals and you purchase a VST you can only install it on one or basically buy it twice
I get the point of boss pedals being one at a time so that isn't a real issue for me but we all know this is being sold as a loss leader getting people ready for the launch of a multi pedal eventually
Micro purchases are OK I guess but this could lead to subscription eventually
I have been a boss fan and user since the 70s and this has destroyed my faith in boss
Overall I think the original concept was OK but badly implemented
Digital samples will never sound like their original analogue pedals sounds crazy but when it's too precise and clinical it loses that human feel sounding lifeless and flat
Sorry but that's what it sounds like
People don't go to a rock concert to hear perfection they go for how it makes you feel those slight imperfections are what makes it human and real
This is nothing but a bedroom pedal

  • Within the first minute of the video “I asked ChatGPT…” this product was created specifically for your kind. No thoughts, no reality, just mindless consumerism. Enjoy the PX-1 for a couple years till the new one comes out or boss rolls out a new online platform and this becomes worthless lost media

  • I know this product isn’t ’subscription’. As the owner of a lifetime license of a Roland software product, their system still behaves as a subscription by having to check in. And it doesn’t work that well to boot. Had all kinds of weird issues. I have no beef with subscription, Avid and Reason Studios are doing it fine. But Roland’s is a mess and I don’t use the product anymore as a result.

An hxone has all of them on there to access. And even if they stop updating it someday those will work till the pedal dies. But the Roland pedal only holding 12-16 is gonna doom it sooner. Plus like already mentioned elsewhere resale.

But in world that values companies with subscription models 4 times that of another company that doesn’t, capitalism is gonna capitalism. So Roland is going to want as many people in their ecosystem as possible.

  • I’m really disappointed by your attitude at the end of the video; typically in your videos you come off as kind, understanding, with a desire to educate and inform. Here it’s more flippant and dismissive of many in the community’s concerns and point of view. To tell people “get over it, it’s 2025”… cmon man. People have a right to not want these types of products/services to infiltrate the guitar gear market – we don’t have to accept it. And if you are happy to, that’s great, but I didn’t appreciate the dismissal of others’ POV.

  • Dylan, Thanks for being your own person .I'm not going to comment on the pedal but i will comment on the you-tube community.I noticed as soon as one of the popular YTubers came out against the pedal they all piled on like a game of football .( we see hat a lot lately) ,THANK YOU Dylan for your honesty and no pressure !!! real review . Thats class.

  • Two things:

    1) What guarantees we have that in the future this app will not be turned in a pay to use model?

    2) Let's say the user buy some effects and after that he decides do sell the pedal, the new owner will have access to the effects bought buy the previous owner? (That's the part of buying and owning that people are talking currently).

  • My only question would be how do the sounds hold up to the original pedals? If they're very close and accurate then I'd say it's a good pedal…other than only being able to use one pedal effect at a time, that just seems bonkers to me.

  • I am I wrong to think this is a direct competitor to the HX One? The HX1 has dozens more effects and all of them come with the pedal, at no extra cost. Why is anyone buying this Boss?

    Reply
  • I have the TC Plethora X1, bit of the same concept, but its not an actual multi effect like a lot of people want to look at it, but its a stand-in for anything youre missing at a certain moment. I think the concept is great.

  • This pedal was "designed" by marketing guys, not engineers or musicians. Seriously, what is the real use-case here? You can't use the FX in a chain. Only one at a time. You can't use it as wild card FX on your pedalboard as you would have to change its position in the signal chain each time you change the effect. And that's me disregarding all the other valid concerns that were already beaten to death… Happy for the people who enjoy it but to me it's a completely pointless pedal that offers no practical value.

  • Isn’t the subscription thing about Roland Cloud? I haven’t tried it but doesn’t that come with a cost? I think most of the hate comes from fear that the guitar fx industry will have the same development as the gaming industry, which no one would be happy about except from shareholders.

  • This pedal has the downside of ownership (paying for it) but not the upside (freedom). Some people accepting a bad business model is nothing new, and how they personally feel about the pricetag isn't the point. Better alternatives can be had for less, and for a long time now. Don't give examples of other annoying things like cellphones needing accounts and whatever else. Besides the part where you are acknowledging that this pedal works in a stupid way, a cellphone has little to no competition and is basically a necessity. BOSS are reinventing an inferior wheel, and in a bunch of different ways.

If you need an app, account, or anything other than a functional piece of hardware that can be repaired and maintained without interference or disruption, you don't own anything. At best you are licensing this pedal, and it can be taken from you. There is a history of this, where people "buy" something like a movie, song, or software license, and then it is not just unsupported, but their access to it is revoked. Having their permission to transfer your license is subject to change and completely out of your control.

This is a practice that is barely tolerated for freemium digital products that have varying degrees of DLC as a method of monetization. It has no business existing in the physical world like you've probably seen more and more with appliances and car features. In this context, an incomplete pedal that costs $250, it is unjustifiable. It doesn't even do more than 1 thing at the same time, and it can't toggle between effects without fiddling with the knobs or buying an external switcher. Paid DLC on top of that? Insanity.

  • The first well summarised concise opinion and review of this contencious new pedal. I think its a great idea and have ordered one,8 loaded effects, including the T Wah,which I was going to buy seperately, but that was more than this is costing ,just for one pedal! and 8 more free ones to add on,whats not to like here..it will sit well on my BcB 90,not taking up extra room, but blending in with my other pedals..

  • You forget one remark about this pedal. Where to put it in the signal chain? As an OD-1 I want it in front of the AMP. But as a DD-1 I want it in the effects loop. Quit confusing.

    Reply
  • Ok so most of the negativity comes from classic guitarist psycho-rigidity: licensing a plug-in is totally fine, EXCEPT if the hardware it goes onto is shaped like pedal ????

    Reply
  • One thing Dylan got wrong! At 3:10 he implies that the greyed out effects are the ones that you can buy. These are effects 9-16 which are free to download now using the app, eg DD2. Only new effects from January 2026 will be charged for. Come on Dylan that is very poor research

  • I like it. I think this concept would be better for the odd ball boss stuff. Mske a 300 dollar version with more in nobs and load it FX that you would normally use only one of and id buy one to save board space.

It would be cool to have a pitch shifter, arpegio, looper, filters, lots of pedal styles that work well one ata time when used with the rest of a board.

  • I'd still be worried about them sunsetting support for the app and then one day you get a new phone and it's all gone. People really feel like they don't own anything anymore and I'm not sure how much this really solves the problem

    Reply
  • I understand the “hate”, but was still interested until I realized it had no tuner. One effect at a time isn’t a deal breaker, but there are too many other more flexible options out there, some made by boss! In the end, I just don’t get the point.
