How to Choose a Guitar (Reviewing the Taylor GS Mini)
Here’s my review of the Taylor GS Mini Mahogany, which I’ve been playing for several months now.
I talk about how to choose a guitar, what criteria you should evaluate and what I think the most important factors are when considering a guitar purchase.

The Furch Pioneer is light years ahead and infinitely better than the GS Mini
For the love of Christ JUST PLAY THE GUITAR ALREADY. SHEEZ.
Just bought mine, main reason is the size
What LR Baggs pickup is it? If you dont mind me asking. I was going to get a GS mini in the next couple of weeks and was thinking it would be a good idea to get a pickup.
Appreciate the video. Been looking for an acoustic that isn't full size – keep bouncing back and forth between big baby and gs mini. I too have smaller hands (well short fingers), and am hoping that by getting a smaller body and scale I can improve some of my comfort and learning…. I'm a little nervous about trying a <24" but the GS Mini is such a well designed and easily portable instrument. What's the worst that can happen? I can always buy a larger one later and add to my collection!
I bought mine a few days ago…. really liked it but it cost 850$CAD and i wasnt even looking for a small…. than i turned the corner in the guitar store… same mahogany one used but basically in new condition (plastic still on pick gaurd) 550$. Backpack case is prety nice too. Didnt even realize that was part till after checkout
Loos ARE shallow! As you get older you will recognize that playability is number one!
This dude is a f’n weirdo
Estás feliz con el resultado del sonido, pero ni siquiera no muestras como suena??????????
why would you take the pick guard off???
One thing that no YouTubers have mentioned is whether this GS mini can be tuned down to DADGAD because of the reduced scale length of 23.5" the strings have reduced tension … so I'm wondering if other tunings like DADGAD cause the strings to buzz.
No, you should not. The Larrivee parlor guitars are far superior and I still own a Taylor 815ce which i higly recommend.
My favourite Taylor by far
thank u for not playing a guitar dude
There are 11 GS Mini models. It would be really helpful to actually say which one you’re playing.
I assume it’s the Mahogany?
Tried one today . Looks good sounds good. Walked out the shop with a academy 12 . Liked the playability and sound more. Didn't like the scale length on the mini .
Thanks!❤
I bought the BT1. Exceptional playing. For hours. My bestie ever.
Ive got a taylor gs mini, i bought it off a drunk who picked it out of a dumpster i actually traded him a bottle i found in a wall in a house in East Aurora. Dude you look exactly like one of my best friends i grew up with, who i havent seen in like 15+ years his name is bo… K bon.. peace.
Hi , are all the GS minis al made in the US ?
In this video, have you peel off the pickguard protect film yet ? I peel mine off last year, and leave a lot of scratch mark on it easily, I was thinking peel off the entire pickguard off also. Look better without pickguard
it's lovely, can you give me as a gift?
I have two GS-Mini’s. A Koa-e and a mahogany. I have some other guitars, some other Taylor’s, but I find myself playing the minis more and more. I play with no pick. I have discovered that I like the sound better and it makes them even easier to play by replacing the medium strings with lights. Interesting thing. The Koa guitar seems to sound better with d’addario ej16’s while the mahogany seems to favor Elixir. All acoustic guitars seem to have their own personality.
I enjoy your channel. Thanks for the content.
Do you keep tabs on humidity with it? The cost of buying dehumidity packs isn’t worth it to me so I’ve just been detuning it and putting it in the wardrobe in the case. Problem is it doesn’t get played as much that way.
Would it be bad to keep it out in the open with no monitoring on humidity?
Ha ha ha….looks are your first criteria? Epic fail dude, criteria for musicians are always feel ( playability and sound ), and size of your hands, all three having about equal weight, but sound being probably the most single important aspect. You don't have those three things front and foremost, you're not really looking for an instrument to play. GS mini is an overpriced, overhyped toy. How much Taylor paying you eh? Never mind, ya can't fix stupid. A parlour is a much better sounding and playing bet, and you can get quite a few nice parlours for less than that overpriced jumbo ukelele with 6 strings, which is what it really is.
that white ring is the best part about the looks man
Your hands are not child sized ????
Geez, you really nailed the 'looks' part. I am looking to buy an acoustic guitar and I was attracted to an 'ugly' or 'funky ' looking model (still am) but now this guitar has my attention. Ugly Betty is a hell of a lot cheaper than the GS Mini, though.
Love GS Mini's. I had a Mahogany one and it was definitely quieter than the spruce ones. The spruce top ones are noticeably brighter and louder. Regardless, I love all GS Mni's they're great.
I stopped playing guitar since 10 yrs ago after playing it for 20 yrs. I find playing my guitar a struggle. Its a big one and i have small hands It just so hard to play it. Bought it for $50.
Now i have saved enough money and give GS mini a try. Ordered it yeaterday and i hope i wont be disappointed.
What string and gauge are you using?
