The VOX AC30 Hand-Wired combo amp celebrates the iconic ’60s guitar tone that drives classic-, garage- and alt-rock sounds—as well as country and other music styles—to this day. The Hand-Wired model features a tube configuration of four ECC83/12AX7s, a single ECC81/12AT7, four EL84s and one GZ34, as well as two 12” Celestion Alnico Blue speakers. The AC30 Hand-Wired also includes an improved power supply, custom output transformer and effects loop.

“I have a bit of history with VOX amps,” says Jason Isbell guitarist Sadler Vaden, “and every amp I love from them sounds great. But the AC30 Hand-Wired is one of the best VOX amps I’ve ever played. The top end is so nice and smooth that I seldom need to use the Tone Cut control. To me, the Hand-Wired sounds like an amazing recreation of a 1963 AC30. Vintage VOX amps are awesome, but when you’re hitting the road, you need something reliable. This is a fantastic sounding amp.”

  • I'll say this: last night me the bass player and my 2 bandmates, drummer and guitar player were jamming, and I had this epiphany. Guitar player was playing a Mexican Fender Strat thru a Vox AC15 to his pedalboard and a vintage Eventide Time Factor stompbox. We were jamming along and he was getting some fabulous otherwordly sounds out of this setup. I started thinking about all the youtube clips about pickups, pickup height, which strings are best, what guitars, years, models, blah, blah, blah have the best tone. All this esoteric micro detail about guitar sounds that a dog can't even hear. I realized that thru this amp, pedalboard, and stompbox, no one on this planet could tell you what guitar he was playing, much less the details of it. Which is how most guitar players play. I have 30 guitars, tons of gear, and a soundproof studio in my house, so I'm very guilty of being a gearhead. Tells me most of of this discussion would need a clean silent room, a clean amp, and a very proficient player to find the nuances of a guitar's particular sound; otherwise, it's just guitar players shooting the breeze. In the real world, that rarely occurs, and definitely not often playing live. Anyone care to retort?

  • Old man here. Had many amps and guitars over the years. The Deluxe Reverb and the AC15 are hands down my favs for best amps of all time. I could easily live with just a AC15…

  • Too dirty to be a Clean and too clean for to be a high gain. I love the Vox. But I realized that the pedals you put in front of it are eaten up by the Vox and in any case the Vox overwhelms in its sound any pedal you put in front of it and ultimately eats up their sound unlike other amps. Have you noticed that too?

  • Not interested. Bought a vintage ’67 for that price, including an overhaul by a specialist and new tubes.

  • think i'll wait another 3 years when vox releases the "real" handwireds that are 100% true to vintage. seriously, how many of these "true handwired" have they released over the past 2 decades, claiming they are the closest ever to the original JMI's?

  • I'm so glad he played big chords. Too many of these demos are just mindless wankery on the fretboard. We need more demo and reviewers like Sadler!

  • Good demo by a good guitarist that knows what he is talking about. Vox AC30 paired with a Rickenbacker does have that distinctive sound, from The Beatles, The Byrds, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, etc.

  • Sadler absolutely killing it.
This amp has finally arrived officially. Can't wait to get to try one. Been waiting the entire 1.75 years since they were announced.

  • I know I’m probably in the minority here, and there are obvious exceptions, but I’ve never really liked the combo of humbucker guitars and Vox amps. There’s just something about the response EQ and attack of Vox’s, they just sound infinitely better to me with single coil pickups. Particularly arpeggiated chords plucked through a Fender or Rickenbacker bridge pickup. To me that is THE Vox sound. Of course Brian May got one of the greatest humbucker lead guitar sounds with Vox amps, so it’s obviously not a hard fast rule. But most of the quintessential Vox sounds on classic recordings were with Ricks, P90 guitars, or Fenders.
