Rogue Bass Review

AS WITH ALL MY REVIEWS, it is best if you watch it while wearing GOOD headphones or through GOOD speakers.

{PLEASE read all of this before you contact me…in fact, PLEASE watch my video titled “WATCH ME FIRST” before you contact me.
Review:
Rogue LX200B

Despite the lack of reviews, I decided to purchase this item because of cost and functionality and my need for a bass. I want to help anyone else make an informed decision so here’s my honest review:

FIRST IMPRESSION:
Beautiful…light…the black paint actually has a wierd (and somewhat hard to see) sparkle to it. Nothing distracting or even noticable from a distance…but it does add a bit of “hey…look at that!”
Don’t worry, it’s not like a carnival car or anything like that…just a mild bit of glitter to it.
The finish was flawless and the feel seemed sturdy. As light as it was, I was afraid (unneccessarily) that it wouldn’t sound very thick. The body design is SWEET…but the acgtion seemed a bit high to me…I will be fixing that soon. DEFINITELY NOT A DEAL BREAKER!

HOW I CAME TO OWN THIS:
Checking around for a replacement to my Ibanez GSR200 (the perfect bass, IN MY OWN HUMBLE OPINION). This bass had the same pick up configuration but was $100 cheaper. I originally wanted to pick up the Ibanez and get the Rogue 5 string and the Rogue Fretless as back ups…but when my money cleared up enough to make a purchase, I only had enough to pick up 1 or the other. I fugured, “Ehh…why not get the LX200 while it’s on sale for $99 and see if getting any of the others will even be worth the money…”
I have had experience with Rogue in the past. I owned their Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric before I moved and unfortunately had to sell it and everything else that I owned…so I was pretty confident with this purchase since I loved my Grand Concert (and originally Musician’s Friend had sent me a Dreadnought by mistake…which I almost kept since it was SOOOO nice). Rogue used to be REALLY bad, but apparently they got tired of selling CRAP that no one wanted to buy and have since started releasing very impressive and VERY inexpensive guitars and basses. The Series II LX200B is NO EXCEPTION.

FUNCTIONALITY:
As stated before, the action seems a bit high to me…but nicely intonatesd right out of the box. The pickups are also a bit weak?? But that might be due to the height of the strings, ya know? I’ll have to update when I get the action dropped.
NOW…HOW DOES IT SOUND?? GREAT…this bass is EASILY very comparable to the $200 Ibanez GSR200…EASILY.
With the Ibanexz I would run it straight into my mixer and then straight into my DAW through the interface…and the sound was INCREDIBLE…the Rogue does the exact same thing and sound JUST AS GOOD…only the signal is a little less strong. I LOVE THIS BASS.

OVERALL QUALITY:
VERY GOOD…I love the sound of this bass…the lows are strong, but the highs keep the signal CLEAR. You get that fat “thwap” when you pick the strings (notice “thwap” not “thwup”). The wood seems light and thin (not heavy on the neck and shoulders like a lot of basses), so I’m not sure how much damage it can take…but hey, here’s an idea….DON’T DROP YOUR MUSICAL EQUIPMENT! Take as good care as possible.
I don’t think regular use and abuse (drunken drops and bangs against cabinets) would do ANY damage to this thing…but it probably couldn’t take an attack or intentional blow.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
For $100?? YOU CAN NOT BEAT THIS THING…SERIOUSLY…for the price you’d pay for a name brand (notice I didn’t say BETTER) bass of the same quality and sound? You could get this bass, the fretless version, AND the 5 string version. Do yourself a favor and BUY THIS BASS (ESPECIALLY if you find it on sale!!)

  • Thank you so much for the review!!! I ordered it from Guitar Center and I don’t play bass yet, but need one to properly record full quality songs. I have amplitube so I’m very thankful you ran it through your amp sim so we can hear the recorded interface sound. Thank you so much. I can’t wait until mine comes in.

  • I haven't seen anyone write anything about fret buzz alot of reviews are saying that I played along time ago wana give it another go but I barely have time for anything haha so I wana keep it cheap just incase I played alot when I was younger but shit I don't remember much lol….. Ya know… Anyways I never messed with the action or any of that shit on the basses i had back then and my 1st was a johnson real cheap 2nd a epiphone it was odviously alot better and definitely getting new strings always helped but I'm really considering getting it just to see if i can bring it all back just kinda seemed right i spent so much of my teenage years getting good at playing a bass alot of time and devotion and I said fuck it after a house fire and never played one since and I want to again and I'm liking this one so far juat worried about the fret buzz so many of the reviews talked about

  • I found one $80 shipped! I've never picked up a bass before but for that price, what the heck? It looks cool, it plays great and it even stays in tune! I'm loving it.

I'm sure there's 10 times better bass guitars out there, but for a cheap bass, it's pretty sweet!

  • I know you no longer have yours, but I just wanted to give my opinion of this bass, I just got mine, although it is a series 3, it still has all the same feel and looks as the 2, I have played a few different quality basses over the past 30 years and although my favorite would still be my old LTD 5 string, this does feel nice, the neck is a very meaty feel, not a thin Jazz bass type by any means,
for those asking about the knobs, on mine I found that it is fairly confusing in a way as the one closest to the fretboard and down is the bridge, and the one above and back a little is the split P bass style, and the 2 tones are a mid and bass. again, very nice instrument for the cash, $95 used, $119 new..  oh and mine is the Sparkly Blue.. lol again, I bought it for the price not the looks..

thanks for your original video, it does sound great.

  • I just picked one up at a garage sale for $20. I have 5 kids. Did the whole travel sports thing with the first 3. They are all out of school. One plays drums. The younger 2 are twin 5th graders, and we are introducing music more with them. We have drums, piano, acoustic guitar, and now this bass. Thats their toys. Even their friends are encuraged to try them. here's hoping!

  • I plan on buying this bass guitar, but I do have two questions: What genre is it suited for? Can you play both rock and jazz? Thank you.

  • I bought this same guitar in the left handed version. I got it on Craigslist, with a Fender Rumble 25 amp, gig bag and a cable for 90 bucks. I like the way the bass plays and sounds, but you are correct about the pick ups being weak.
