  • Mark Hoppus (Blink-182) used the Bass VI on live performances of ā€œI Miss Youā€ during the band's 2003-2004 tour.

And, most famously, John Lennon and George Harrison shared a Bass VI that they played on songs where Paul McCartney played acoustic guitar or piano. They used it on the Beatles' albums ā€œThe White Albumā€, ā€œAbbey Roadā€, and ā€œLet It Beā€.

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan used one in 1986 before he fell out because of drugs, he would use it on the second solo of couldn’t stand the weather… sometimes he would pull a slide out and use it on the bass vi

  • The Beatles also… original users of the Bass VI. Lennon used it for bass when Paul was playing piano or whatever.

  • Just sounds like an extra muddy guitar or a bass that doesn't go low enough and none of the practicality of either a bass or guitar… I don't get it tbh.

  • What is the string spacing on these? Wider than a guitar, narrower than a traditional bass?

  • I'm not a guitar player, but I had a dream the other night were I had an idea to play the bass line on a 6 string guitar. In the dream it was fuzzed up simple repetitive badd line, similar to Spaceman 3's Suicide. Your first demo is the sound I dreamed. If I ever learn this is the guitar I want. I dreamed it ????????

  • As a bassist (I’m talking single notes bare bones bassist) for my band, do you still think it’s worth investing in? I know how to play bass and guitar, but my band mates only expect me to play root note stuff.

  • Some observations about Fender's 'Bass VI' model:
    1. contrary to what quite a few people seem to think (and also often vehemently claim online) to this very day, this model is/was most definitely NOT a baritone guitar, but it's a genuine 6-string bass guitar that is tuned one octave lower than a regular 6-string guitar, and also originally featured the EADGBE tuning;
    2. The Fender VI was originally released in 1961 and the Fender Jaguar a year later, so in 1962 – some folks still seem to think that the Fender VI was nothing more than a 6-string bass or baritone version of the Jaguar, but this is obviously not correct, as the 'VI' clearly predates the Fender Jaguar… šŸ™‚

  • I’m confused I thought it was a baritone guitar I guess it has bass in the name but could you use it as a baritone guitar?

  • I tried one today, it's wild how much it works for traditional bass lines on the low notes.

  • 0:54 fun fact: the beatles used this heavily on the white album because it was more comfortable for john and george recording bass parts

  • I own it… I changed the strings because the original were too thin. In my opinion this is a bass, and you can play some single notes with the 2 more strings, for me you can't play it as a guitar with chirds because it doesn't feel comfortable, you get a lot of noisy vibes. My opinion, of course.

  • These things are awesome, suuuper tempted to buy one right now, with the Vintera II Bass VI out. I used to really want a PRS 277 Soapbar Baritone, but they don't make them anymore, but this is even better. I wonder how this would sound through a deluxe reverb, probably pretty buttery!!

  • Personally i love to do andy summers style playing on my bass six, his reggae triads and single note riffs work well on bass

  • The Beatles used it on Helter Skelter..John Lennon played the bass V1..Paul McCartney played lead and rhythm guitar.Ringo played drums and yelled I got blisters on my fingers…George was not even on the track!

  • you don't play a bass vi like a regular guitar …it's like you play half bass half guitar a couple of strings at a time …not chugging chords …jeez.

  • The problem with these Bass VI guitars is the intontation on the low E string. It's sharp even with the saddle all the way back. I wish Fender would fix this – intonation is sort of important.

  • Dammit you had to tell me that The Cure used this, didn't you? Now I want one. haha

  • The baritone-meets-bass has overtaken Precision and Jazz models after its appearances in Peter Jackson's The Beatles: Get Back documentary led to a surge in sales

  • but of course many people used it AS the bass guitar, including The Beatles and Cream
