My wife has this bass and it is the best sounding of all her basses (Fender Jazz, Fender Mustang, Gibson SG and two Hofners)….
It's a MIDTOWN not Junior DC !!!
The new ones for 2019 sound awesome. They finally just put the pickup on the middle and got it right.
Great demo! You nailed the Geezer tone quite nicely. Â This pushed me over the cliff, and I just pulled the trigger on one of these today.
you're an idiot. it's based off of Gibson's Les Paul Double Cut guitar model. this is a bass version of an iconic guitar. I could be wrong but I believe the Les Paul DC came out before the SG.
Man… those strings are under so much tension… :/
Watch their performance in Paris, 1970, you can see them backstage before the show, and Geezer is playing around before going out, and you can hear a quite obvious buzz and clank of his strings unamplified. If you've ever played with flats, you know that they make like zero sound unamped. I think he used old roundwounds. Live at least. Then again, how he got his signature sound live is really what is still somewhat unknown, because you can make a P bass sound like anything in studio.
They need to bring back the Ripper and the EB-2!
I love how much you can tell that this guy is a guiarist
What's amazing is that my mexi jazz bass sounds like this
it is exaclty an SG bass…not even trying anymore, are we Gibson? I am sad, cause my gibson ripper and victory std. basses are two of my favorite basses I own
can you please do a video review of gibson flying v bass?
thanks
jack bruce now uses warwick and they are 34 scale, so ha! but jonas hellborg uses 30" scale basses so there, Jonas Hellborg also uses warwick but whatever
@Tonyisnt yea i know andys awesome
I don't know why the closest tone you can get to a Geezer Butler tone is playing Gibsons, when he almost only played P basses.
I like it…. I might use it when I aint playin the Precision.
I'd like to hear some bass reviews that also include slapping and other funk-related techniques, please.
its a single coil in the neck broo
i honestly think that gibson needs to just keep making guitars. yeah not basses. thanks. 🙂
cool : )
@AcousticBeaver You're right. Les Pauls, SGs, just terrible… That was sarcasm in case you couldn't see that.
its a gibson, therefore shit.
@Tonyisnt he works for pro guitar shop.
Someone is a Sabbath fan….
what was that ugly kid joe tune he played at the beginning (second sample). i just cant figure out which song it was
this bass CAN sound really great, but it's neither set up, nor played properly in this video.
No thanks. First impression of this wasn't good. Didn't even sound intonated. Too buzzy.
nope
saw one at the music store and tried it out… i liked the sounds it gave. Used to be totally against short-scales but now i'm thinking of getting a short-scale bass… but I can't justify paying $1200 (CAD) for it. I'd much rather get a Epi Viola.
Lovely little looking bass. I rather wish you did a few bits with a pick as well, to show the difference in tone and how it sounds with and without a pick, but this is lovely sounding as it is. I'll have to look into grabbing one of these little babies when I get the chance. Gotta love a good short-scale bass.
