  • I personally prefer a pj. I like the sound of a p but for my bass tone I really don’t like having much low end and I like having that extra open sound that the bridge pickup gives.

  • Sean Hurley, played on records by John Mayer, Lizzy McAlpine, Gwen Stefani, Jason Mraz, Lukas Graham, Colbie Caillat, Lady A, Lana Del Rey, Alanis Morissette, Ringo Starr, Robin Thicke, Idina Menzel, Vertical Horizon, Michael Buble', and many others

  • I was playing a large, partially enclosed outdoor stage that had terrible acoustics happening. My Jazz bass was just vanishing in the on-stage sounds. There was a terrible low end rumble on stage that just buried my sound, but the audience mix was clean and clear.

I tried switching to my Stingray (2-band), no dice, still couldn't hear myself playing, then switched to my passive P bass with flats, and it cut right through. I could hear every note. That smooth midrange works every time.

  • It is bizarre that sometimes the first designs of something, like the P for example, just can’t be outdone

  • I'm a believer. Was lucky enough to get a good deal on Japanese Precision and I adore that bass.

  • I have all 3 examples of Leo's children. I appreciate what the P is, but I tend to gravitate towards a Jazz. It just seems more versatile and the neck is great.

  • P bass are great instruments, I own one, but I've always been a J bass fan. It's why I own 5 of them.

  • You lost me when you said it 'always looks cool'. We're bass players… do they give a shit? I know i certainly never did.

  • JB sounds boring and mediocre, sits very well with music which i dont like it. P bass tho, cut thru mix boomy lows and punchy mid range stands out and makes it a melodic instrument

  • I've been playing guitar for some time. I'm not pro but I'm definitely not newbie either. Now I've been thinking about buying a bass. I like a lot of stuff on that thing. I love the bass sounds. That drumset on a guitar stuff makes my soul warm. Here is the question. I've been thinking about buying a Squier CV 70s Jazz. Mainly for learning slap. But I'm a bit confused about the P bass also. I mean. Many out there is quite convincing about P being the good stuff. So what do you ladies and gentlemen say. Any good advice?

  • Why is it that all P Bass players seem to think that every bass player needs a P Bass? One RIck to rule them all, and in the groove confine them! Bwah hah hah hah hah!!!!!!

  • not every song i listen to needs or benefits from the old school flats muted tone

  • I see why this short has 130 comments since 2022. It’s a poor ad for the video.
