  • JP I once looked down on Yamaha. That’s when I was young, uneducated and stupid! ???? I am older and wiser now and am a proud owner of a shiny new brown sunburst LL16 that I picked up from my local shop yesterday. There’s not a guitar that I have ever owned from any manufacturer that sounds as good as this Yami, boy does it ever sound good. It’s a keeper for life and beyond, thanks for the great vibes and wonderful videos. You add value to our lives! Have a wonderful and fun day!!

  • Just purchased one today,l really tried every guitar in this massive guitar shop and the LL16 was definitely my favourite and loudest in this price range, l didn't know it was electric and was pleasantly surprised when l got home but a direct plug in hiding in the stap button

  • JP I’ve watched now both the sunburst and the black version of the Yamaha LL-16 & was wondering what you thought would be better towards Country Rock Gospel? (Could you share your opinion as well about a friend of mine who said black version are lower value woods than the other types..)

  • I do respect the older LL series, as my guitar hero always played one, Bert Jansch. Typically the FG1500 and LL400, but settled on his favorite LL11E towards the latter days of his career.
I don't think they have a particularly brilliant sound though, nor do they look very nice to my eyes.
They have that typical Japanese harshness, tinny, bright, twangy sound. I appreciate some people love that.
I prefer warmth, character, and overtones.
Unfortunately, my Lowden was quite expensive, but 'that' sound costs I guess.

  • I have an LL6M ARE and an LS6. Even with laminate back sides, they are wonderful guitars. I just had a setup on my LS6 and it sounds so good.

  • Are you sure the nut and saddle aren't micarta? You claimed in this video that it was tusq? On the LL16 D BLACK, you said it was micarta?

  • I have a Yammie DW-15 from about 20 years ago. They were sold more in Europe than in the states. Very nice guitar. All solid wood, rosewood with Engleman spruce top.

  • I just played this guitar on music shop. Im not a sunburst guy, but MAN, this particular brown sunburst is very beautiful. Im now hesitating buying sunbusrt vs natural for that model ! My wife is 100% sunburst aha

  • I bought this $1,000.00 LL TA but in Natural finish. No lie I've
been a Martin dread but when I bought the LL TA I had one o
those "Come to Hesus moments". First time out at my BG
club jams, a pal said " thats one of em upscale Yamahas isnt
It"? Bought it at a Ft Worth pawn shop.for less than half of
MSRP. Research showed the guitar was only 13 weeks old.
Previous owner had a "whirlwind romance" with it!!!

  • What a great video. The guitar sounds fantastic. I’m totally blind and I really like the sound of the guitar. Once I saveUp for a breedlove concert with spruce top and Murtle wood back and sides, I intend saving up for a yamaha a5r which is not quite twice as much as the ll16. I currently own a yamaha fg830 CE which is a great guitar as well. I sold a takamine guitar to get the 830 CE. I have ebony bridge pins installed on my 830 CE and it sounds great. Thanks for a very nice review

  • I find the LL series to be FAR superior than the Yamaha A3R of the A series in term of sound. I'm 50%-50% unplugged-plugged gigging musician and I need a stage guitar. I really like to play unplugged also. What would you recommand between both series ? I know this one not have the same Neck Profile and only has the passive pickup. But I dont think its a problem to buy a 50$ External Preamp Pedal, i.e: Behringer V-Tone ADI21 to boost the signal. What do you think ?

  • I bought one in this exact color after seeing your video. No regrets and priced very well. Now I own a Black LL6, sunburst LL16, a 1977 L12SN, FG5, and a 1973 FG200.

  • Wow, I really love the way this guitar sounds…. I went out about a year ago and bought a brand new Martin D-28 and after playing it for 3 months I decided to take it back and trade it. I ended up with a Taylor 314ce and it’s okay… much better overall than the Martin which to me sounded kind of muddy and muted. I tried several different sets of strings too before I took it back. Yes, I lost $1000 in the deal but you have to do what you have to do. I WISH that they would have had one of these Yamahas for me to try…. I want to go right out and try one for sure.. Thanks for the great video!!

  • Hey JP – who would have thunk that a 2 year old video would still be influencing buying decisions. Your review took me well over the edge and I finally bought one today. Thank you for your honest and fun review of the LS16. I have the natural top with rosewood and loving it!

  • I just recently purchased the Yamaha ll6 not ll-16, but its cousin. I wish i had the budget for the ll-16, but from what ive heard, not terrible a noticeable difference but im just an Hobbyist but do enjoy a good projecting sound.
    Any comments i would appreciate

  • I have big fingers and love my Yamaha FG5X. Looking for a wider nut to space out the strings a bit for finger picking. Does the LL 16 have greater string spacing?

  • You sold me! Based on this review I bought one and it's in black. I love it as it is but I have an appointment with my luthier to install a bone nut and saddle, do a setup, and fit unslotted bone bridge pins and slot the bridge. However my luthier is in such demand that he's doing the work next January. That gives me plenty of time to research bridge pin materials so I may choose something other than bone. Thanks for the excellent review. BTW, this guitar has Yamaha's process similar to torrifaction. Btw, the nut and saddle are not Tusq. They're made of urea, a form of plastic.

  • I need to try out the L series. Do they still make the jumbo? I just got the AC3M DLX and am blown away by both the sound and workmanship. Locally, i have not seen a Yamaha jumbo.
