Using a clean boost does WONDERS for the 85/15s pickups in split coil mode.
Just ordered one in “Fade Blue” brand new for 800, all PRS are on sale right now 20-30% off until December 31st, had to jump on the deal and pull the trigger on my
First one! I can’t wait!
For anyone out there thinking of buying it – just go ahead and do it. I’ve got a Korean made se and just can’t get it out of my hands
I HAVE THREE PRS GUITARS GAVE ONE TO A FAMILY FRIEND I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH THESE GUITARS NEVER ! YOUR JUST A PICKY PLAYER ……
I have 4 SE guitars and I have no problem with tuning on any of them …I never use split coil on any of my 28 guitars …not all offer split coil…pickups are fine …if your guitar is too hot lower the pick ups .
I have the same guitar but the Tobacco Burst Standard 24-08 w/ the bound body & neck. He's right – Swapped for the Locking Tuners immediately. Definitely worth a hundred bucks. The sound is incredible, studio quality & super versatile – You can easily access all 24 frets, the PRS nut makes it sound great when not plugged in. The frets are kinda small & you can feel them when sliding on the neck to different positions. I've owned a USA Made CE-24 & the playability is almost the same. Every string rings out in all positions, the action can be set just as well as a Core series & I actually like the coil split. So there, a long winded review but that's my 2 cents. No better guitar at the pricepoint IMO!
3:05 I was actually shocked when I picked up a Les Paul for the first time
An SE has cheap pickups. Just like the cheap tuners. There are other split coils that are US made and a better quality.

I don't want to have my PRS sound like a Strat or Paula. I want that it sound like a PRS. If some of the PRS sounds are close to the others, it is an add-on, but I prefer the PRS-sound and the possibilities and flexibility have with that guitar.
i own this guitar in the same colour leftie, and i love it, absolutely love it. I have a strat and a tele and the neck is nicer on this guitar. it plays and sounds brilliant. for me this is a JOAT…I switched out the tuners as soon as I got it for the PRS SE locking tuners and it is awesome
agreed – best value for money instrument I own.
Lots of thanks for this video, im looking out for my first prs and this video was all I needed to make my decission, very taughtfull. Keep going
well done Mate
Just got it a week ago it's awsome I love it ,it definitely sings in my opinion
PRS guitars really perform best when you work with the volume and tone knobs – much more expressive than others – not a Strat fan – my Telecaster is the same way – got to roll off the tone a bit.
I'm a Strat player, and as I've gotten older, I've wanted a Gibson too. However, I realize I need a tremolo, so PRS seems like a natural choice. Have you played the PRS DGT SE? I'm comparing it to the PRS SE Custom 24/08 because I'm currently pondering which one to buy
what pickup did you end up switch it? thx
Just bought the blue one. Looks great. And I have the same gripes you had. The tuning is frustrating and I have gotten more used to the sound. The pickup and coil selector does nothing for me. I plan on changing the pickups and probably getting lock tuners also ????
Trust the sound in your head!!!
I have the SE Standard 24 08 that isn't quite as pretty but still the same guitar and yes you fucking should buy one! They are gems.
Im with ya mate!! PRS enjoyer here! ????????
Which locking tuners did you choose?
Play it you hump
Thanks for the review. It's so nice to hear the cons as well as the pros and the reasons behind your conclusions with the guitar. Good job.
wow, change the machine heads, change the pickups, hmm don't think i'll bother with one of these
Honestly it was between this 24-08 and the McCarty and you saved me with this video. McCarty it is! No slips pickups for me
I agree with your evaluation. I have an SE Paul's guitar and I changed the pickups out to Loller elroyo pickups and they're absolutely fantastic. I also changed the tuners out for locking tuners made by Gotoh. The original bridge was okay but I got a graph tech adjustable bridge that snapped right in that's amazing This is stain is amazing if you haven't heard of loller pickups I suggest you check them out online.
It's an honest review but I seriously am a bit surprised not to say confused about the single coil / humbucking topic. I mean if you don't want to just go close to a single coil sound but actually want to have an excellent one, you have to buy a single coil guitar – you mentioned it yourself. PRS offer the SE John Mayer for that purpose – excellent SC guitar. But f.m.o. it's not fair to seriously ctiticising a Humbucker guitar not being able to deliver an excellent single coil tone even if the switch system gets you close to it.
By the way – don't even have issues with the tuners – but I am not living in the Sahara. ????
I’ve only been playing for about 6 months but this was my first electric guitar (my only). Mine was used and it had an old wrap around bridge. The studs on it were worn out. Then the grooves on the nut were too deep. And I as well had to retune constantly. Well I got a new wrap around bridge with Intonation adjustments, and a new nut, locking tuners, switched to EMG pick ups and had the truss adjusted and I’ve got to say I love this instrument it sounds perfect and you can virtually play any style of music. Really what improved the sound the most was the new pick ups. The coil switches or what ever were alot more noticeable. I spent $799 and went a little over board for just starting out but as I’m getting better I can confidently say I’ll keep this guitar for ever it is amazing 10/10 would recommend with those tweaks
I am considering this guitar and just what demo videos I have watched the sound doesn't get it for me either. It is like a muddy mix in the middle, the humbucker loses it's full sound and the single coil sounds watered down. I"ll have to try one to know for sure.
I have the same guitar as yours. When I first tried it in the guitar store, it was plugged into an Evh amp and I was like “that’s not the sound that I’m looking for” but still I wanted have a PRS HAHHAAHHA so when I got home already, I plugged to one of my Fender Amp and damn, I loved it. Maybe, it’s just about personal preferences that makes it pretty not impressing. But who cares? It’s a PRS, and it’s my dream guitar. HAHAHAHHAHAHHA thanks for sharing this video dude.
thank you for the great reviews about this guitar. I was wondering if you had any issues with the neck and the frets, due to humidity or temperature changes. How is the fret job ? thanks
I think the single coil feature is t really meant to be studio quality. It’s meant to emulate it close enough for live performances. Like, the purpose of it is to be a versatile tool.
Paul even says this himself.
The only thing I have disliked about my PRS is the jack placement. I prefer fenders location.
glad you said this about it not being the sound in your head. I felt this too (just from watching vids, i don't own one) and thought I was being fussy but it's not the tone I'm looking for and you helped me realise that if I bought one i'd need to change the pickups, so thank you! I just like the look, smaller size/weight, and price tag over LP's but would like more of that classic PAF tone.
I have a core and an se – they both come to my gigs. The SE 24/08 mini toggle switches are effin awesome
I really appreciate your comments about splitting the coils. As PRS advertises, I was hoping that these TCI coils would yield some satisfying single coil tones, but apparently not. Honestly, I have yet to hear any split hummers sound like decent single coils. Better to save some $ by investing in the less pricey Custom 24, and then switching to my Strat when desiring single coil tones. ????
Have You Swapped out the Pick-ups? If not, Have you heard of Zex Coil Tri-Bucker?
I tried one yesterday. I thought the coil split sounded good – it worked better than on other guitars I have tried as in they actually sounded like single coils and were different enough to the humbucker config that it was easy to tell which was which. Sound in my head? I don’t really have one – probably as I’m primarily a bass and keyboard player. The picks up sounded good in humbucking config too – either with some crunch or some drive. I tried a Mexican strat at the same time – it just didn’t speak to me. Your cons didn’t apply to me – but I think this is probably a lot to do with where each of us have come from, and that I only want one guitar that gets close enough to everything.
I own the Ezra green version and I adore it. I also changed the tuners but I did it post purchase from Sweetwater. I personally really love the split coil and my PRS sounds how I imagined. Esp when I put it in drop C tuning.
Man I still can't decide between this and SE Mira. Mira looks cool but I fell in love at first sight with the Custom 24. It's just looks perfect (2nd to Jaguar IMO).
custom custom 59 in bridge and dimarzio transition in the neck????????
I've got my SE 24-08 coming in next week! I don't have many options within the brand unless i want to drop a lot of $, but stoked all the same. It'll be a different kind of beast for me, as I've been a 22 fret, Strat-style / Les Paul player for the longest time. I do agree with what you said on not seeing the 24-08 as a jack of all trades guitar. It's got it's own vibe. It'll definitely handle a gig just fine, but I'm not gonna expect it play like my Schecter Johnston or Gibson Trad. Les Paul. Can't wait for it to come in
It is the same for me with Epiphone guitars. I had a Korean SG model, swapped in Duncan customs figuring it would be perfect, but it wasn't. Played great, had a nice weight and all, but even with those pickups, it never sounded "distinctive" I guess I'd say. Kind of generic. Not sure if it was the finish type, the two piece neck, the selection of the wood itself, just didn't love it. Put the stock pickups back in and sold it.
As a mediocre(at best) guitar player, and after owning a PRS Custom24SE for a few weeks now it is has become my favourite guitar to play. As bonus, instead of hearing “not another guitar” from my other half, she thinks it looks beautiful, and it does, with a turquoise quilted maple top and headstock.
hmmm so would you like some cheese with that whine
Try parallel instead of split. it’s still humbucking. I like it better.
how much yall paid for this one?
