i just realized one of guitarist is shiren (currently in unlucky morpheus)
i have this song in playlist but never paid attention to video
it shows his influence in both bands
How delightfully unusual! I'm not sure how I feel about it yet but it's *fascinating(
I haven't analyzed the harmonic structure well but, my guess is that there's a bunch of modal interchange in there, some harmonic minor, maybe phrygian dominant because of those augmented seconds in the choir. From the prechorus I get more of a natural minor vibe. But in the chorus I feel like there's a lot of secondary leading tones/diminished chords. I really love gothic japanese metal because of the use of dark baroque harmony, it's something we don't see often in western bands. I really love the obscure vibes. Thanks for reacting to this band! I love them
This band i discovered randomly in my rabbit hole journey thru Japanese metal & rock & are one of my guilty pleasures. They are so good & underrated imo.
Yui .. the singer is the self proclaimed Fairy Queen, Dictator for life! She believes is people stop believing in fairies they will cease to exist. I love a good back story lol
Love the styling. They sound as good as they look. And the steam punk touches .. divine
The song .. the baroque style harpsichord got me hooked immediately! .. then that ominous bass sound .. a tasty build up promising more .. but then so theatrical & epic & over the top .. it didnt disappoint! All the things im a sucker for lol
They are also really good live. They can put on a show
Smoke machine in a playable guitar is indeed a real thing.
Devin Townsend uses a gigantic, stainless steel flying v with lazer lights and a smoke machine in the live (Royal Albert) performance of March of the Poozers. Needs to be seen to be believed, the guitar and the performance.
There's also a few guitar videos about it too that gets into the technical specs. It's an extremely heavy guitar, literally.
Also, just a little edit in:
Regarding scales, modulation etc, there's some interesting transposing going on with traditional Japanese scales that get converted to Western instruments. I'm not even remotely an expert, but I do know there's a bunch (about 5, but I could be wrong. Probably am) of specific Japanese interval scales that are their own thing outside of the standard western melodic, harmonic, natural, pentatonic etc. And then bands will of course add similarly transposed and adapted western chords again drawing from Japanese folk and traditional music which doesn't use the standardised 12 note system we do. Tl;Dr they take from the non 12 note, jam it into the 12 note and you get this.
Something for you to look up, or ask around. I'm only very cursorily aware of the whole thing.
Oh, and I'll break rules writing music whether I know what I'm doing or not thank you very much. ????
this is one of the first Japanese bands I discovered and got me into the rabbit hole. The actual first was either them or Doll$boxx, but regardless, great band
I'm pretty sure my face looked exactly like yours the first time I saw this!!
You just have a fascination for Asian influence.
Its musically very…. Simple.
Please, don’t speak about classic influence about this kind of music.
DAS FEENREICH! Schwarzer Sarg is another good one, its a bit more Industrial Metal.
If you show this for the music professor.. film his reaction!
Hola Nitt ! Cómo estás ? …este grupo es muy sorprendente ! Gracias ! Bendiciones????
Nice Reaction! Besides Lovebites my favourite Japanese band so, keep em' coming. Yui and Asami are my two to go too singers from Japan.
pls react to more Beatpella House!!! Been a while and i wish u continued reacting to them
Those melodies have too many semitones for normal minor scales. I don''t know how you would describe them but they are eerie. Yousei Teikoku is also known as Das Feenreich which is German for The Fairy Empire. That explains the pointy ears. They haven't been that active in recent years, but luckily Unlucky Morpheus is another band that shows interest in unusual scales and classical music. Check out The Black Death Mansion Murders, Unending Sorceress, Kago no tori, and Knight of Sword.
Maybe I can call this Neo-classical symphonic speed metal? Shiren is the shredder, he was a former Babymetal guitarist too the earlier one.
YouTube annoying recommend this for a long time before I checked it out. Then fell in love with them. The choral sing seems Japanese based, check out Ghost in the shell OST. Where it is used in a haunting way.
Here's a couple of suggestions for this band. " [Official Video] Yousei Teikoku – Kyusei Άργυρóϛ – 妖精帝國" Great visuals and probably one of Shiren's best guitar solo's. " Yousei Teikoku – Patriot Anthem live HQ Sub Eng/ita" Watch with sub titles on. It's hilarious. Also fun fact: Shiren was one of the first Kami Band Guitarists.( BabyMetal) But he didn't stay long.
Glad you found them! I ran the whole Pax Vesania live show last night. What a great band.
The guitarist in the white shirt is Shiren, currently with Unlucky Morpheus. He’s classically trained and plays multiple instruments. You can really hear his classical influence in both Yousei Teikoku and Unlucky Morpheus, including the harpsichord in some songs.
They gained a initial following like many other Japanese bands did by doing music for anime and video games until 2005 when they releasing albums on their own. Founded in 1997 and for the first 12 years or so they only had 2 official members so their early video's only have those two in them (lot more orchestral elements to the songs) but started adding other permanant members in 2009.
Yui participated in a live concert for composer Yuki Kajiura (has written music for a number of anime series) as Yuki wrote a number of the songs Yui performed. The song Mezame from the anime Mai Hime is really good and has 4 singers together including Yui https://youtu.be/Jxnf5uaeRDE?si=G8ONpuKqXCTrYTEx
This has been on my YouTube playlist for a few years, thanks for the review
Believe in the Fairy Queen, Dictator for Life, you Muggles!
The guitarist on the right is the band leader of Unlucky Morpheus now.
Gothic Kawaii!!
Get this girl some Ave Mujica! I think you would really enjoy them If this is your jam.
So glad you're finding some of these earlier bands. It's easy to see where the latter day Japanese bands get there influence from. I know that many of the more recent bands we love from the East will mention Western bands that influenced their style, but for those of us that have followed Japanese and Korean bands for many years it's evident that the reason they're so good is that bands like Yousei Teikoku have set the bar very high.
Finally!
Itsuki Yui the lead singer is the fairy emperor and her title is dictator for life she mixes German and Japanese in most of her songs that why the name Das Feenreich the guitarist is the legendary Shiren of Unlucky Morpheus in his young days
An oldie but goodie. Haven't seen this in many years.
You should dive deeper into the Fairy Kingdom. They have a bunch of cool stuff.
Yepp ! Finally someone who is reacting to Yousei Teikoku, Yeah!!! She is great and I love her songs, themes and visuals. Surely it is not for everybody because it llooks and sounds strange but well, what else do we expect from the "Fairy Empire" ! ^^ ????
The "newest" Hanabie single "Spicy Queen" is really good and very fun. If you haven't yet, you should check it out. Always loved your Hanabie reactions 🙂
And that's going right in my Spotify playlist now! WOW
