Bellows & Barrows on Bass Guitar QUICK DEMO

Earthquaker Devices Barrows Fuzz Attacker
Barrows pays homage to the iconic MKII circuit while adding modern refinements that would make even the most discerning vintage purist weep tears of harmonic joy. At its heart, Barrows features a trio of carefully matched germanium transistors nestled within finely tuned circuitry that has been lovingly coaxed to produce everything from light, singing distortion to crushing fuzz tones with nearly infinite harmonic-rich sustain.

The phase-corrected and buffered output ensures it plays nice with other pedals down the line, while the increased output volume and wide range of fuzz tones make it a versatile sonic weapon. All this power is packed into a compact footprint that saves precious real estate on your pedalboard. This isn’t just another fuzz box – it’s a portal to the fabled tones that have haunted the dreams of fuzz fanatics for decades.

Level: Controls the output volume of Barrows. Unity gain sits around noon, but you’ll find plenty of volume boost available when you need to push your amplifier into blissful submission.

Attack: This is where the magic happens. At lower settings, Barrows provides singing, amp-like distortion with superb touch sensitivity. As you rotate clockwise, the circuit transforms into an increasingly aggressive fuzz monster, building to crushing, sustain-drenched tones that seem to go on forever. The wide range of this control means you can find everything from gentle breakup to full-on sonic annihilation.

Earthquaker Devices Bellows Fuzz Driver
Greetings, dungeon masters! Stoke the fires in the seventh circle of tone with the Bellows! This little two-knobber is a nod to the non-master volume amps of yesteryear and the fiery tones that come only from diming these vintage behemoths and letting ‘er rip until the tubes catch fire. For your safety, and the safety of others, the Bellows packs these tones into a compact Dirt Device without any of the pyrotechnics.

The Bellows isn’t based on anything in particular, but it straddles the line between amp-like grit and fuzzy saturation, with a bunch of useful distorted places in between, capturing nearly every era of Rock-and-Roll in a box. If I were you (and it’s a good thing I’m not) I’d resist the usual urge to dime it right away, as the Bellows’ character changes dramatically based on where the “Drive” is set.

Our simple, scorched-earth approach to design leaves the full frequency response of your instrument intact, which makes the Bellows a great bass overdrive, and guarantees that what goes into the Bellows is what comes out, only hotter. On lower “Drive” settings, you’ll find responsive and dynamic amp-like breakup. Dime it, and you’ll hear full-on thermonuclear saturation. Just remember, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
