How to send Midi Clock (tempo) from HX Stomp to Nano Cortex | Ultimate Guitar Travel Pedalboard

Hey guys! Today we talk about how to set up midi clock from the hx stomp to the nano cortex. If you’re building a pedalboard with the nano cortex and HX stomp, you want to make sure to clock them together and have all the tempos synced up. Here we talk about how we can use the HX stomp as the midi master to send clocking or tempo to the nano cortex. This pedalboard has the best of both worlds… The effects of the HX Stomp and the amplifiers out of the Nano Cortex. While a lot of people put them against and make videos of Nano Cortex vs HX Stomp; I think it should be Nano Cortex plus HX Stomp as they both complement each other well.

????️ What is the Nano Cortex?
Also known as the Neural DSP Quad Cortex, it’s one of the most powerful floor modelers and amp profilers on the planet — packed with cutting-edge tech for guitarists, bassists, and tone nerds. Think of it as your ultimate all-in-one rig: amp modeling, cab simulation, effects processing, and seamless routing — all in one sleek box. And now, it can be used as a multi effects processing pedalboard.

????️ What is the HX Stomp?
The HX Stomp is the smallest, most compact pedal out of the Line 6 Helix lineup and still to this day, is one of the most powerful floor modelers out in the market. Works well for guitarists (both acoustic and electric), and bassists, and has all of the legacy effects that line 6 is known for.

I’m also using the Pedaltrain nano pedalboard, Ampero foot switch and the Walrus Audio Canvas HP

  • I’ve been waiting for this video, thanks brother! I recently got the very similar set up. Polytune>drive boost>Nano cortex>HX stomp. Using NC as a head and cab, and HX stomp for all the FX and send stereos to DI.

  • Hey side question…with the Nano Cortex's 2.1 updates etc…is it the best option for a single rig device to gig with? I don't play 10 different tones or anything but I do have a nice pedalboard with Strymon stuff, Halo delay and some drives that I run into a Marshall setup. Love it…but sometimes I just don't want to pack the amp/cab and can just plug into FOH. What's the best option for that now? I've heard the NC captures are better but it lacked some features and FX etc…is it still behind the HX Stomp in your opinion if you had to pick one? Also…the venue's usually have an XLR input into PA system. The Nano doesn't do that (but there's an adapter)…Nano also doesn't have FX loop so I'd have to run my Reverbs (if I used my pedals too) AFTER the Nano and then into a DI box I'm guessing. Maybe not an issue but I'm a bit ignorant to what's best. Hoping you can provide some sage advice to a newbie on the modeler side. Thank you!!
