Wouldn’t it be cool to walk into a store and just buy David Gilmour’s tone in a box? Well, now you can! Robert Keeley’s Dark Side boldly promise to provide the full experience and magic of David’s classic mid 70s sound. Here’s my review.
How do you present a signature sound in one single box? How can you capture not only the actual tone but also the feel of owning and operating something close to the original vintage gear? We’re talking about perhaps the most recognisable tone in the history of modern music and guitar playing.
But you can always expect something special from Robert Keeley. The bar is high but few seems to really understand tone as much as him.
The Dark Side is the second in a new line of artist inspired pedals. As the name implies, the pedal is designed to capture the essence of David Gilmour’s tones from Dark Side of the Moon, as well as Wish You Where Here and Animals.
The Dark Side has two sections, fuzz and modulation/delay. They can be used simultaneously and the different modulation effects and the delay, is selected with a toggle switch. The rear features the usual in/out jacks, as well as TRS send/returns for additional pedals, expression pedal and for swapping the order of the fuzz and modulation/delay sections.

Oh fantastic This was unreal Thanks Very informative as well
Bjorn, I have this pedal and am trying to nail the fuzz tone with it, that you seem to get quite easily out of the DevTech Audio DG original muff. Do you have any tips on settings of the fuzz side on the Keeley, and should I be stacking anything before it? Running a Strat with SSL5 in bridge, into a Fender Deluxe Reverb. Thanks brother!
Bjorn, what if you had several of these, all setup differently, selectable with a Gigrig Quartermaster. Could that perform an entire Pink Floyd Cover show? It seems to me that this might be a sleeper option for a unique rig.
Hi Bjorn! Thanks for the review! I wanted to ask you the following! For reaching the PULSE, sorrow solo sounds, do you think this pedal could work? I am thinking of getting this or the Pink Flow. I find both of them really easy to use, but maybe I have more range of things to do with the Pink Flow. It’s an investment but if you purchase separate pedals it’s the same cost.
@gilmourish Am I correct in that you can't combine two Modulation tones? For example, you can't combine Univbe with Delay?
I have this and the Keeley Monterey, as well. Those two together are a pedalboard!
I really want to know the song’s name in 1:14 please !
I'm thinking of buying this instead of phaser and flanger. I've got some muff already but the fuzz side sounds brilliant for '70 tones. What do you think about the phase on this pedal? It seems sound better than the phase 90 script logo.
That is not a review. That is a demo
3 Big Muffs. Vintage sounding metal drum delays. 4 modulations. Switch to put fuzz before or after fx…and they all sound great.
Replaced 4 different fx pedals on my board.
I like it????????
Bjorn…a musician to keep an eye on ????✌????❤????
Great demo @gilmourish but the written review is gone? If i can ask some advice – I've already got phaser, chorus and delay pedals (amongst others), not sure whether to just experiment with the ffm1 ($100) and ffm3 ($180) or i can get a keeley dark side for $250. MXR mini 108 fuzz is also around $200. Thanks!
Love what your doing
MY WIFE JUST BOUGHT ME THIS. OMG!!!
There's a better player with closer to Pink Floyd tones on YouTube. You need to ask him how he does it. Search for "Keeley Dark Side Guitar Effect Pedal – Does it sound like Pink Floyd?"
I just got one of these at my local buy/sell/trade for $150!
It needs a little delay
More of a demo than a review, you didn't actually say anything about it. Do you like it? Recommend it? Sweet demo though.
Great DEMO, where is the REVIEW?
Nice job! Do you use a comp on these tracks?
If that don't sound like the British Rock Roll
Maybe this is the pedal for me after going thru 3 Boss Guitar effects units and finding the distortions too harsh most times.
GREAT playing mate if I were there I'd bring my drums and we could jam on ALL Floyd lol ,great vid!
As I understand it, can any pink Floyd sound be controlled? Different albums?
Can you show full track from 1:13?) Pleeeease
Do you think this pedal would nail the wall live lead tones? That liquidy flanger sound heard on mother and comfortably numb (among others)? BTW, your playing is spot on.. any chance your coming to the States to gig?
I bought this pedal and it is fantastic ????????????
the issue i have with this is that you can't have a phasor and rotory, nor a delay, phaser, rotory, those are the ingredients for the 4 magical notes
My only question is what's the other plugin for on the right side of peddler I used my wah peddle and was wondering if you could connection between or just leave be what's it's function
Which pedal are you using ? Thx
sadly just mono and you have to choose between flange/rotary and Phase/Univibe 🙁 also better for ambiend doom than anything else
Can you send me full recording of the solo you play at 1:15 ? I've been listening to it for months and I cant get enough of your awesome playing!
Why have you added “delay in the mix” and what does that even mean? Does this unit not allow delay+ modulation/gain simultaneously?
Hi Bjorn. Love your website. How would this pedal sound with a bedroom setup like Laney Cub 8 or Cub 10?
This may be a dumb question, but is there a way to play this through headphones like the strymon iridium?
