That’s a very interesting observation — and actually quite common with *composite or carbon guitars**, even high-end ones like the **Enya Inspire**. When specific frets (like the 10th and 12th on the low E) sound *dead, muted, or choked*, it usually comes from a **physical resonance mismatch* between the string’s vibration frequency and the guitar’s body or neck behavior.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of what’s likely happening:
—
## *1. Dead spot resonance (physics issue)*
At the 10th–12th fret on the low E, the string vibrates near **~110–130 Hz**.
On many guitars, that frequency can line up with a *neck or body resonance* that absorbs energy instead of amplifying it.
* In **wood guitars**, this sometimes smooths out naturally because wood is irregular.
* In *carbon/composite guitars**, the structure is *too uniform*, so a specific frequency can ring out *less — you get a “dead spot.”
*Symptom:*
The note decays quickly, sounds dull, or lacks sustain compared to nearby frets.
*Fix options:*
* Try *heavier strings* (like .054 instead of .052 for the low E) — shifts the resonance slightly.
* Tune the guitar *down a half step* — if the dead spot moves, it confirms it’s a resonance interaction, not fretwork.
* Sometimes adding *a small weight* (like a tiny clamp or extra tuner mass) to the headstock changes the neck’s resonant frequency enough to fix it.
—
## *2. String or setup issue*
If it’s only one string and the rest are fine, check these first:
* The *string* itself may be slightly defective (uncommon, but happens often with coated strings).
Try swapping the E string.
* **Action or relief**: If the neck relief is too flat, the 10th–12th area can buzz microscopically and kill sustain even if you don’t hear fret buzz.
Slightly loosen the truss rod (1/8 turn counter-clockwise) and retune.
* **Nut and saddle seating**: Composite saddles are sometimes too rigid; the contact point might be uneven.
—
## *3. Bridge and saddle coupling*
On carbon guitars, the *bridge plate* and *saddle slot* are composite too. If the saddle isn’t perfectly tight in the slot or the slot is slightly uneven, certain notes won’t couple efficiently into the top.
*Check:*
* Push the saddle lightly sideways — if it rocks or moves, shim it with a thin strip of paper or foil under one side to test.
* Try a different *saddle material* (bone or Tusq) — even minor density differences can restore those missing harmonics.
—
## *4. String-to-pickup interaction (if you use electronics)*
If you hear the dead note *amplified through the pickup* but not acoustically, it might be the *piezo* under-saddle pickup not coupling evenly on that string.
*Test:*
Play acoustically vs plugged-in.
If the note is dead *only when amplified*, the piezo element under that string isn’t fully pressed — fixable by re-seating or replacing the undersaddle pickup strip.
—
## *5. It’s inherent to that specific build*
Composite guitars are extremely consistent, but they have strong resonance peaks and nulls.
It’s not unusual for a single Enya Inspire to have one or two “quiet” spots on the low E or A strings around frets 10–13 — it’s structural, not a defect.
*Solution in that case:*
Adjust setup + try alternate strings (like *Elixir Nanoweb* or **D’Addario XS**) that slightly damp high partials; the dead spot becomes less noticeable.
—
Would you like to tell me your *string gauge* and *tuning* (standard E or maybe D-standard)?
I can help you choose a gauge/tuning combo that shifts the resonance just enough to even out that dead zone.
Does it have a built-in looper?
Can i switch presets with that pedal, while playing backing track ?
Can you play music from mobile through the guitar and jam along?
Which one would you recommend for someone just starting out? Inspire or Sonic?
Do you have issues with the battery not charging? A local YouTube reviewer is selling his Enya for $300.00, kudos to his honesty, he is saying that the battery won't hold charge, and he even said that he received it for free directly from Enya to make a review video. If the battery is flawed, it will really be an issue.
I found no discount code. Only the link for the $100 off.
You also mentioned that the 4 button pedal came with it? I see no mention anywhere that this is an included item. Can you confirm?
I wonder if the pedal would work on the Sonic pro model even tho it’s not listed as an option for that guitar.
From what I can find the internals of the guitar are basically the same electronics.
I do notice however that the pedal actually scrolls thru the presets from the pedal. I wonder if the pedal connects thru the App with the App controlling the switching?
If you would could you please check to see if the switching works without the App being opened?
Do you have a Nova Sonic Go also? If so could you test the theory about the be pedal?
You may be able to connect to the Inspire App with a Sonic Go.
Since you have a connection to Enya could you see if this would be something that could be added to the Nova Go App where the pedal could be used. Probably a good marketing tool to sell more pedals! That is if the pedal connects only thru the App.
Always something more to ponder.
Thanks for a great review and whatever light you can shine on this mystery.
So did the upgraded onboard speaker get louder or clearer?
Cool guitar!????????????????
Great review! love your honesty, I think this is a prefect guitar for small room practicing.
For real, I thought it was a Strat at first glance lol, but honestly, after listening for just a moment…the sound isn't bad at all!
Did you just mic it? the sound is so nice!!
