FROM GIBSON:
The sweet and soulful semi-hollowbody that’s beloved by players worldwide, now in exciting custom colors
The Gibson ES-335 DOT is the cornerstone of the Gibson ES line-up. From its inaugural appearance in 1958, the Gibson ES-335 set an unmatched standard. The pearloid dot inlay rosewood fingerboard on a hand-rolled Rounded “C” mahogany neck remind players where it all started. Gibson’s Calibrated T-Type humbucking pickups are paired with our hand-wired control assembly. The result is that versatile Gibson ES tone that players have craved for over 60 years. Tuning stability and precise intonation are provided by the Vintage Deluxe tuners with Keystone buttons, paired with light weight Aluminum ABR-1 bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece, anchored by steel thumb-wheels and tailpiece studs.
The sweet and soulful semi-hollowbody that’s beloved by players worldwide, now in exciting custom colors
The ES-335 is a Gibson ES™ model that has been wowing guitar players all over the world for over six decades. From its introduction in 1958, the Gibson ES-335 set an unmatched standard, and it remains one of the world’s most beloved and versatile electric guitars today. Regardless of the styles of music you play, from rock to blues, from country to metal, the ES-335’s versatility enables you to do them all. This ES-335 is no exception and is now available in exciting custom colors that are sure to get attention.
The ES-335’s body is crafted with layered maple/poplar/maple for the top, back, and sides. It is coupled with a solid maple centerblock to create the amazing sustain, warmth, and resonant tone that players crave in a semi-hollowbody instrument. The solid maple center block also helps in controlling the unwanted feedback that often plagues full hollowbody guitars. The mahogany neck has a Rounded C profile that is extremely comfortable and easy to play. It’s not too large or too small, but “just right” for many players. It is capped with a rosewood fretboard with a 12” radius that makes it easy to play chords and bend strings without fretting out, and that is adorned with acrylic dot inlays, and equipped with 22 medium jumbo frets. A Graph Tech® nut and Vintage Deluxe tuners with Keystone buttons help maintain tuning stability, while the nickel-plated ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece anchor the strings solidly at the other end to deliver the outstanding sustain that the ES-335 is famous for. Gibson’s Calibrated T-Type humbucker™ pickups in the lead (bridge) and rhythm (neck) positions deliver a wide range of tones and further reinforce the ES-335’s exceptional versatility. They are hand-wired to individual volume and tone controls with 500k potentiometers and Orange Drop® tone capacitors, along with a three-way pickup selector switch that lets you run either pickup individually or combine them at will in any ratio you desire since each is controlled by a separate volume knob. The control knobs are stylish black Top Hats with silver reflectors. A Gibson hardshell case is also included to keep the ES-335 safe and secure when you’re on the way to your next gig.

Funny story I used to own an Epiphone Dot ES-335 it was an amazing sounding and playing guitar but after a year or so I switched to strictly using SG's since they were a better choice and fit for me but whoever I go to a music store sometimes I'll doodle on a ES-335 sometimes
Splendid playing – but not much mid-position ?
I have an epiphone. If you have limited options $$$ you could do better with another brand
Indeed once owned a 335 style semi hollow from Vintage. Although a tad heavy for stage, it was always on my stand for each gig!
I have an older Gibson ES-335……they are nice!!!!
Nice guitar and good review. You can send me one to Barcelona anytime????????; I'd be grateful. You have a great channel.
I have an Ibanez as93fm artcore semi hollow with a flame maple top in lefty and I'd put it against these any day.
Eastman
The Epiphone Shinichi Ubukata is probably my current favorite semi hollow. Bigsby, 57 classics, custom appointments and a hard shell case for under a grand. Hard to beat.
I am so confident that I’m going to win that Martin d-28 it’s my dream guitar
I own a 1989 ES335. Man it sounds so nice.
Can you do a sound comparison vs the h535 if you still have them
I have an Ibanez JSM100 john scofield signature, beats a custom shop all day❤
335’s are awesome guitars. Would really be interesting if you could do a video comparison between this Gibson 335 and the Epiphone 335 inspired by Gibson custom you shared a few months ago. Now that would be a killer video. Great playing by the way.
A couple of years ago decided to trade in a couple of old Epiphone guitars to buy a Gibson Les Paul, but came home with a Les Paul & a satin sunburst 335. Just a great all round guitar. Love the satin, it sounds more open, especially unplugged, it shines up very quickly where & how you play to become very personal. I still have an "inspired by Gibson" 335 in the figured rasbury, but it just is not the same as playing the Gibson. Happy to take the Epiphone out, not overly fussed if it gets knocked around a bit, but when you get back home the feel & sound of the Gibson 335 & the Las Pauls are just that cut above, so although some may argue about the price differential, there are Gibson deals to be had where the extra few hundred £ is worth it.
The 335 is a beast ! I have a 1979 Gibson 335 with a coil tap and original T top pickups , Been my # 1 for over 25 years ! Nice playing Man
Lovely ❤
Thanks John for doing a 335 episode. I’ve had one since 1980 and it is my favorite. They are definitely essential for a well diversified collection. I bought mine before I went to Berklee hoping to sound like Larry Carlton! Great videos, Cheers!
I've got the IBGC 355 on my wishlist. Not a big fan of the 335 at this stage, but I have a feeling someday I will be.
I completely agree with John on how great the ES-335 is, as a decidedly mediocre guitarist who more or less needs good-sounding guitars to help me out tone-wise. I splurged on one some years ago, joking to friends that "for this much money, it should play itself" — and sometimes it feels like it does! It's so touch-sensitive that it makes even simple licks sound more bluesy/soulful (i.e., like I'm more skilled than I am ????).. and as John notes, encourages me to play in a way that brings out that expressive quality. Which is why it's a famously popular blues/jazz guitar.
Kind of a random comment, but I wish Gibson would bring back the ES-359.
These are awesome. I kind of have my eye on the Ibgc white 355
The Jim James epiphone is so amazing. It outplayed many gibsons that i tried that were over 4x the price. Epipiphone Jim James is a Gibson guitar that is better than the 4,500 guitar from Gibson. If you want a custom shop Gibson type guitar, then get and Eastman. They are such better than a Gibson custom shop guitar. Better build.quality, and 1,000x better than a Gibson 335. Eastman is the best guitars that you will pay 4k for amd want to save money go with Eastman. Handbuilt and high quality components. Eastman will come in cheaper than any Gibson that was put forth. Check out Eastman. I really hate that he didn't say anything about Eastman. He is bought by Gibson. Try out an Eastman, and you will never consider a Gibson again.
Great video. I would love to see a Yamaha Sa2200 video and maybe a comparison video to the Gibson. Love the channel. Thank you. ♥️
