  • Is your Grote holding up? My neck and truss rod went separate ways after only a year of mostly sitting in a soft case. I wouldn't ever buy another one, they have a 3 month warranty and the factory that makes these is the same one making Firefly, Harley Benton, etc….and they have one customer service agent who is not the brightest bulb in the factory.

  • I’m here in 2025 and very late to the Grote party. I have to be honest in that any guitar you play sounds amazing!!! You’re playing is soothing and beautiful. I wonder if you still have this guitar? Thanks for the review ????????????

  • Great Review! I bought one since! When I changed the strings the bridge fell off. Is that what happened to yours? It's not hard to figure where to put it back but it is an extra step to have to do.

By the way I did not have problems with the set up. It sounds wonderful, It has really sweet ring in the high end. Very special guitar everyone should have in their collection.

  • My conclusion is: change the tuners, do some personal work and you'll be on your way. I take it. Thank you for the review.

  • Thanks for the video. I bought the same guitar and I'm happy, But please tell me how you recorded the sound? Is it the sound from the amp through the microphone or is it a guitar processor? I really like it.

  • Great review. For those who raise the pickup, It is not necessary. Just raise the pickup screws and leave the pickup sitting on the face. After all that is why they put screws in them. I like where it sits stock to get more air and woody tone. This guitar is just a whole lot of fun and I just leave it sitting out as my go to guitar for playing on the couch plugged into my old Yamaha THR10 stereo solid state amp.

  • I am amazed on the quality of the looks on that little puppy ~ tone sounds great through my speakers! I am lucky to have a 1960 Gibson ES125t, but I am looking for a cheap option to play in bars without worrying about the instrument – You have shown me a decent option
    Great review ????

  • So what would a Gibson thin body arch top single pickup from the 1950’s, all original be worth today, 2025?

  • It's been a while. Do you still have this in 2025? Did you change the tuners or anything else?

I bought one of these in red. It did need work. Still, I loved it. Then I needed rent money after losing a job; had to sell it. I had even bought a hard case for it.

The trapeze tail piece really makes a difference in the tone and feel. I love them. I would love to try one of these with a single cutaway. Would it sound just as good? That is the only reason I might get an Epiphone Casino instead. If Grote made one like the Casino I would get one immediately. Full hollow is what I prefer.

Maybe 2025 will have another Grote coming to my home.

  • Got mine today.
Absolutely bowled over by this guitar.
Could do with new tuners and maybe frets are a little rough.
But everything else is perfectly acceptable.
    Highly recommended.

  • ????buying a hand made archtop guitar or anything over $999.99 is ridiculous and over priced I can understand the time spent making the guitar and people may disagree with me but give a guy a break their is people who can afford a guitar priced at $1,500 and up but for those who can't give them a break to be able to get a good jazz guitar or modify a cheap one .

  • Just ordered that particular model last night, from their online shop; it's already shipped and I'm expecting it in the next 5 weeks. Considerably more expensive over here – but everything's very expensive over here! Can't wait to get it set up and start using it for jazz and blues.

  • You play so brilliantly. You sold on the Grote. I'm looking for one in my town. Single pickup for me is fine. I like soft jazz. Question? Are there any made with a single cut away?
    Thank you

  • Great review. Love that you didn't concentrate on distortion but displayed the fundamental tones in such a comprehensive way. It might be a great guitar for western swing, too.

  • For a guy who says he doesn't really play jazz, you sound amazing. Best review and demo of a guitars soul. I want one and plan to add a bridge pickup for more versatility. Thank you, subscribed!

  • Sponginess? You probably are talking about compression. There is a sort of plosive to the strings similar to a person speaking the P sound. The trapeze tail piece and shallow angle of the strings going over the bridge cause less tension on the strings. Which makes it easier to bend the strings. This contributes to the compression sound. The strings have a little less resistance as they are plucked. They move more before the release of the pick gets the strings fully vibrating. Maybe that slightly lower tension is what you describe as sponginess.

On Les Paul style guitars, elevating the Stop Bar Tailpiece will lessen the tension of the strings. Some people even top wrap their strings over the Stop Bar Tailpiece for lower tension. To me, a wrap around bridge does not create that same feeling. The tension is higher.

  • Of all the reviews I have heard on this guitar. You make it sound the best I have heard yet. I do not have a guitar with a neck only pickup. I like the sound.

  • It makes a huge difference when the reviewer is a great player. This is the case here. While the specs matter, the sonic truth is evident in the performance. Strikingly good instrument that just speaks. It's hard to evaluate a guitar when the reviewer just fumbles some weak noodling. You get the sense of dynamics and how it would make MUSIC. So, this video wins for all. Nice.

  • Thanks for this, most of the budget reviews are so much salad tossing… The pickup is good but I'd be tempted to try the P90 staple

Hope you're on the mend sir!
