Compression is the best kept secret of every guitar or bass player, it’s probably the most important and underrated pedal on your pedal board. If you’re a pro, you already have one, but if you’re just starting to dabble in compressor pedals, I have a great low budget option to get your feet wet. This kokko mini compressor works awesome. I’m dan, this is guns and guitars, Here’s the full review and demo:
Just like most of these cheap Chinese knockoff pedals, I got this thing from Tomtop, simply because they had the best price, and they’ve taken real good care of me in the past, but I’ll also put a link in the description for amazon if you’d prefer to pay a little more and buy it there.
This mini compressor came in a surprisingly nice box, along with instructions in both Chinese and English. But, like all of these pedals, it didn’t come with a power supply. They do that to keep the overall price down, and just like most of the expensive brands, they assume you already have a power source for your pedalboard. If you don’t, again I’ve put some links in the description for a cheap 9v AC adapter and a daisy chain.
This pedal is a basic barebones compressor pedal with all the features you’d expect to see on any of the more expensive ones. It has three knobs that control attack, sustain, and overall level.
Attack controls how fast or slow the compression kicks in. For fast compression, dial it down. for a slower compression, which creates a more responsive and dynamic touch, turn this knob up a bit. The sustain knob controls the threshold, which is how much overall compression you want, and how it affects the output signal. Turn it down for really subtle compression. crank it way up and you’ll squash the signal so that your notes ring out for days. The overall level knob is a very necessary control, because as you fiddle with the attack and sustain knobs, it affects your output volume, this way you can dial it in so that your compressed signal matches your dry signal, or you can even use it as a clean boost to kick your amp into overdrive. I’ll talk more about that later. Anyway, it’s time to hear this pedal. I’ve dialed in three settings that I feel are pretty good to accomplish the three things I used a typically compression for….

That shirt is a need to have shirt
Great demo. Thanks for being so thorough. I'm buying this pedal because a lot of the other demos suck.
Thank you so much for this video. I received this as a gift from a non guitar player. My first comp pedal. Now I know how to use it.
where is teh bass guitar?/???
Awesome little compressor
It would be nice if, at least once in the demo, you could turn the sustain knob up high, then strike a chord (with no other effects switched on, apart from the compressor) and let it ring (winout touching anything until the sound fades out) so we can hear how it handles sustain. For me, that is the one most important thing to know. But almost everyone on YouTube neglects to do this.
How does this compare to the MXR Dyna Comp?
New comment to an old video buuuuut DAYUM that bass looks so good and you had it sounding nice as well ????
Waaaay too much talk buddy. Video starts at 2:42
is it any good for vocals and synths?
Nice. I actually had Seinfeld on in the background. lol
Does it run on batteries ?
Guns? I'm outta here.
THAT RICKY IS SEGGZY ????
Too bad im too broke for more than 1 bass ????
This eas my first bass pedal and it's still in use, it makes playing feel smoother at the finger tips and helps adapt volume to any random amp. The level knob got a crackling noise after the years, fixed it with electric contact cleaner spray.
hi im a beginner can i use that to my bass guitar?
A newbie here. What does boost mean? Does it mean louder volume?
3:57 was smooth can I use that melody please?
Quit flailing your arms all over. You're not a traffic cop.
6:14 so reminded me of Seinfeld for some reason
how does it compare to the yellow comp?
It is now $78 on Amazon. Not quite the budget buy anymore
Pedals usually do not come with a/c adapters but they usually have an internal battery.
This compressor very usedfull to ambient, music really great
Great video great music song so sounds great audio good guitar ????. Great show
3:35 "it hides my sloppy guitar playing"
ahaa…. now you got me interested
What do you think about the low end roll-off that is comparable to the MXR DynaComp according to many comments on the web? I tried yesterday on bass, I noticed but it’s kind of not bad so far, just sound a little thighter and less mushy. Didn’t try with full band and with my tube bass amp yet, but maybe I will notice more the bass roll-off in the mix.
So sweet's , the songs effect pedals …???? good ..
Dude, they want $72 for this at Amazon!
No pedal comes with a power supply. What are you talking about?
I use one to calm my Mel9 (Melotron) pedal down a bit which replicates the capricious nature of Melotron too well !
Hah! 🙂
I bought this compressor last week and took it to practice yesterday. It's great ! I just need to mess around with it a little more, but yes I agree that compression is the best kept secret. People usually don't buy it first when testing pedals because it's not a "fun" pedal.
These sound kind of like a dyna comp to me. You can’t beat the price. I usually use 2 comps on my board, a dyna/Ross type and a optical that’s pretty transparent and this would be a great dyna/ross substitute.
Bought this pedal based on this video, and am very happy with it! Perfect for home practice!
What is the brand of the bass you are playing at the end?
Because it hides my sloppy guitar playing……sold!?
I have one very similar to this, the NUX Sculpture ($55 USD) and it works amazing on bass
it's 2021, the compressor is now $24.95, and your playing sounds fantastic, G and G.
Thank you for the review, i just ordered one.
Finally someone did nice and clear explanation. Tks.
Do pinch harmonics pls if gets sustain pls?
What a beautiful sounding and looking insrument!
Amazing! ????????
Where exactly would this work best in the signal chain? I’m currently running in order; and clearly not all at once, a cry baby, 3699 Fuzz, Metal Muff, small clone chorus, back talk delay, time shadows delay, amp.
I’m also receiving a Joyo vintage boost pedal in this shipment that I plan on putting between the wah and the fuzz.
Any thoughts?
Was unsure about this pedal. All my pedals are at least $100/150..but if gets the job done, i shouldnt pay 70 for the mxr dynacomp..but if it is clearly a superior pedal, the. All ive wasted was $20
Bought this when the video came out and still using it till this day! I would only change it if it dies on me or for a keeley if i decide to invest a bit more on my pedalboard!
Nice review!! Excellent bass playing, congrats!
This or caline gyla compressor dyna?
Slap like now davie504
Sorry. Too much guns.
