This $100 Amp Proved Me Wrong!

I never expected to find this guitar amp so useful, but two of its features just really nail it for me—spoiler alert: It’s not the sound, even though it sounds pretty amazing. It does some things incredibly well! ????

Later in the video, I also compare it to my Fractal Audio FM3.

  • thanks for the info…..would that work (sound frequency wise) with electronic drums?

  • I have the daddy, the Nux Mighty Space with 2×4" speakers. The modeling is absolutely great and the speaker sound is okay with some EQ. It's now my only amp, after owning Peavey Bandit, couple tube heads with a Celestion V30 cab, and Katana. I can use Yamaha HS8 monitors with Headrush MX5 effects board when I am feeling fancy, but Nux does the job for most of my playing. I agree with Jens that Nux clean sounds are definitely better than Katana 50 I used for a while, as the Boss was harsh and spikey and didn't produce that warm tube compression no matter what eq, pedals or compressors I fiddled with.

  • Hi, how is it when playing with a backing track or with another player on guitar or other instrument? I am asking because it's only 3 watts and if you have to use it on 90-109% of the volume it ruins the clean sound after a few months of playing, what is your experience? Thank you

  • Thanks for your story. I used the NUX Migthy Plug, so the headphone amp, as practice amp a lot at my begining 3 years ago. Today as a portable practice amp I use the Spark Go, since it is smaller than your NUX, but has a little better sound with their technology for their speaker. But anyway, your NUX is good choice even it is a bit bulky 😉

  • Was wanting to buy a practice amp for quite some time and your rare amp review tipped the balance in favour of this amp. Got it for much less than $100. Thanks for the advice.

  • Joyo sweet baby tube amp for me pretty close copy of a tweed champ. With a Joyo American sound + a stack of other pedals , very cheap so good I bought 2 more just in case..I have a Vox ac15 which is great . But a 5watt tube amp is great for size and it's still very loud.

  • NUX do solid little practice amps. I use the biggest version of the Mighty series for teaching 5 days a week and it's been a joy to use 🙂

  • That looks almost exactly like the blackstar fly amp but with less knobs and a software interface. I love that it fits in my guitar bag and sounds good enough to mic or line into a board

  • I recently bought a Fender Mustang LT40s. Fantastic modling amp. $199. more amps and fx than you need. You can tweak and save your own settings.. Haven't decided if it's loud enough for gigging, but…more than just a practice amp, you can definitely record with it

  • After one of my bands broke up in 2008, I switched to Line 6 HD500x with a full range flat response speaker. I had been using a 100W tube head and 2×12 cabinet. The modeler was more practical for later gigs. I later got a Dr Z Z-Lux tube amp, but still use the Line6 for recording for no volume output and I can use SPDIF easily to my audio interface. I like having both options, but the modeling gives me way more options. I was in a cover band and was able to program the entire 3 hour setlist in order, including separate patches for solos when I wanted to activate multiple effects with one press of a button. I also didn't have to buy several pedals I only needed for a few songs.

  • I have a Jazz simulator pedal, small enough for your pocket but sounds big enough for any hall. It has a great bypass option so that you don't need to practice your guitar. Very similar to watching YouTube.

  • Very impressive! I have a Blackstar Fly that is very similar but lacks the connectivity and effects, but with delay and gain, it sounds great. I also have the extension speaker and use it to play music. My point is that an amp of this size can be really useful and probably a great third amp option (after stage amp and home practise amp).

  • Recently found you and your content and it's been a blessing as a jazz beginner. I was looking at your playlists to see if you had a "general" jazz playlist where you've put your jazz beginner videos (or all jazz videos) in a thought out path or just in an order you think a beginner should watch them in but there's so many playlists to choose from

  • Hi,for the kind of music you play this amp is good for practicing excercises, not for concert, naturally;I have a Fender Mustang 20w for practicing at home.

  • I like my $150 Fender Mustang amp with so many features that it would cost a small fortune to get stomp boxes to get all those effects. Since I mainly play acoustic, I love my Tonewood amp that has it's own monitor. But that amp looks and sounds like a good value.

  • Honestly, this video made me lose a lot of respect for your gear recommendations. The Nu-X Mighty Light is nowhere near what I’d call a usable practice amp—it’s a toy, not a tool. I’ve bought and tried it myself. The tone is thin, plasticky, and uninspiring.

It’s deeply disappointing that you’d feature this without comparing it to obvious alternatives like the Spark Go, which blows it out of the water in every category: tone, features, and real-world usability.

You have a platform and an audience that trusts your opinions. Recommending something this weak—without due comparison—feels lazy or misleading. Either you haven’t done your homework, or you’re lowering your standards.

I expect more from someone with your reach and experience. This feels like a step down, and I hope it’s not the direction your channel is heading. I’m starting to seriously question your taste and standards with gear.

  • I have the Mighty Air and it’s fantastic!
I also have a Spark 2 and Spark Go but I use the Mighty a lot more often for practice

  • IMO in jazz guitar and pickup are more important than decent amp. Solid states getting ridiculously cheap and good, it’s the speaker limiting the sound most of the time

Try an engl fireball 100 !!! It’s amazing how good this amp sounds no matter what style you set it up for

  • I switched from tubes to digital back in 2003. I have had MANY digital units over the years and cleans on any digital unit are always superb, so this isn't a great comparison. I run a NUX MG-30 as my main rig now, but ran a Zoom G9.2TT from 2008-2023. It's the high gain models, FX processing power, and ability to use IRs that make a good unit. The ultra small speakers are the big bottleneck to all of these small units.

  • dang the nux really gave a hard time to fractal if we consider the price gap.

  • I use the Fender Mustang LT40S for a portable amp. I think it's easier to get clean tones out of these smaller amps than dirtier or more effected tones, they stack up against higher end amps better when clean. Thanks Jens.

  • My main amp is a Tone King Imperial MKII with a Fat Jimmy C1270 speaker. Incredible jazz tone. My other 'amp' is a Yamaha THR10C which has a good jazz tone. It's $350 new but worth it as it has a lot of the features & functions you talk about here. P.S. – Hope you plan to do a full lesson on the jazz solo using only the Pentatonic Scale which appeared this week as a short. Best, G.

  • Just tried one. Had to return it. Impossible to get a clean sound even at low volume – a buzz like the speaker had been stabbed or the mounting/casing wasn't "clean" – sounded like "Satisfaction" :-(. Via headphones though the sound was surprisingly good, and the app capabilities were impressive for the cost, so suspect it was just a physical defect in the unit. Shame, as I really wanted to get along with it. Get a good one and it could serve you well.

  • Nux are not to be ignored. They are innovative and are producing quality products. There large amps in the “Mighty” series are worth visiting. I know in one of them the preamp section can be disabled so it can be used as a powered FRFR speaker with your modeller of choice.

  • I always have a positive grid BT amp with me, it's so small it fits easily in the guitar bag pocket, it can hold 8hour of battery and it has a really great sound for the size.

  • My favourite these days is the Nux Might Plug Pro, which has the same app/editor as in this video. Best training amp for my needs

  • This was really interesting. I think you can probably make any amp sound good, but this sounded very convincing for something that looks at a glance like a toy.

  • Your line-out comparison to the Fractal Audio FM3 is striking.: This NUX Mighty Lite has an impressive modeling engine! Seven years ago, I bought a Boss Katana-Mini for similar purposes. (To carry on a bike + public transit into the office, for after-work jam sessions, back when people worked in offices.) Although that Katana Mini has since been upgraded a slight bit, this is exponentially more amp + FX + IR's.

  • I love my NUX Mighty Air. Easy to carry around, and at home I connect it to my Kustom combo with a 12" speaker to get the best from both worlds.
